HELP! asking groomsmen

Hi Ladies,

I know this is really not our topic, but FH won't ask and this is an issue for him. How did your guys ask their groomsmen to be in the wedding party? This is definitely easier on the girls. My FH is really awkward about asking his guys. The first friend he asked seemed to have the impression that FH didn't really want him in the wedding party - the reality is totally the opposite!

My fi just asked very casually when the whole group of his buddies were hanging out (all of them will be groommen, so noone is jealous). The only friend who said no to being a groomsman was someone whose wife said she has to be a bridemaid if he is a groomsman, which won't fly with me...

my husband was very casual about it as well (and took his sweet a$$ time doing it!)

Lets see, he asked his BM (his brother) while we were hanging out at a bar. A GM over dinner, another over drinks, one while just hanging out and the other on the phone (no opportunity to see him in person).

Boys are weird.

Nothing like and informal phone call saying, 'Hey, will you be one of my groomsmen?' That was my FI approach!

My FI still has NOT asked ALL his GMs yet
I don't know what's with him, it's like he's embarrased or something. He asked 1/2 of them so far, and the funny thing about it is that they are ALL FRIENDS , so I bet the other 1/2 is wondering, 'What about me???'

Edited to say: I think he asked most over the phone, including the 2 BM.

Boys are crazy...I tell my FH EVERYDAY to please ask....but he hasn't

Lizlen - my FH is the same. That's why the first friend he asked came out all awkward! He is so embarassed over this whole thing. And every idea I can think of is sort of lame or impersonal. ugh! guys!

He just asked. It wasn't a big, sentimental card or phone call. When he saw them he just said, 'So will you be in the wedding party?' No hugs, tears or talk of dresses.

My DH took forever to ask. Everybody kept asking him 'so who are your groomsmen?' throughout the whole year of our planning. He would say who they were but they actually had no clue until like a month before the wedding.

He just asked them when he saw them.

We ahd a group BBQ and asked evryone at the same time.

My FI hasn't asked anyone yet because he thinks he has plenty of time (our wedding is in July 2003). I have a feeling that I will ask my brother to be a GM because my FI feels weird asking him - I don't know why because they get along great! I agree that it is definitely easier for the ladies to ask their friends to be in the wedding party.

He asked two of his closest friends over dinner and he asked 2 of his cousins during a family BBQ. They didn't make as big a deal of it as I did with my girls.

Oh please, don't even make me go there. This was the topic of more than one fight between us!! He took sooooooo long to ask...and it was very casual. Saw this friend at Belmont Stakes and asked, saw another friend at pool one night, etc...and it was just like 'dude, you wanna be in my party' and the response 'yeah man, just tell me where to get the tux'...ugh, men!

It took Craig a span of almost 6 months to ask all 12 guys!! Who did he not see often, who lived out of state, who he was just slow with!! And it was all casual, at the bar (one forgot he was asked they were so trashed!!!!) some by phone but all at his own pace in plenty of time....

Mine only asked his best man and that was over Sunday night football. Hes waiting for Thanksgiving to ask my cousins. Hes been very slow about it too! He says he wants to ask everyone in person.

My FH has just been telling his groomsmen as he sees them. He's closer to them than I am, so I don't know how I'd go about asking them otherwise. Maybe just something like what I did for my girls? It was just a card from etsy asking to be a BM. I liked the mustache idea above, though!

I kinda strong armed my FH into doing something special/different. He wanted to just ask them as he saw them, but I'm all about creating moments and memories (and aparently driving my FH and family nuts). lol I found some pictures online and decided on buying the groomsmen a bottle of their favorite liquor. I had to use sneaky tactics to get this info but I told them I wanted to have it on hand for the e-party (the week after we were planning on asking them) I made tags that looked like help wanted adds and tied them to the bottle. Then we put the bottles in plain brown paper bags, like when you're walking through Penn Station. lol There are pics in my Bridal Party Invites album.
