I have been researching wedding venues for a while now, and recently started going to visit them in person. I cannot seem to find anything that fits our preferences...there is always something wrong with the place....and the places I love are too expensive.
We are having a large wedding, around 300 people, so the place should be large enough (but not at capacity). The ceremony and reception should be in the same place. Also, we would prefer to use our own caterers (this is something i might compromise on).
We are looking at something around the Brooklyn/Queens area. A realistic budget would be around 100-140 max. If the place is outstanding, I might be willing to spend the extra $$.
I would like the place to look elegant, and have chandeliers, and preferably high ceilings (i get a little claustrophobic, especially with 250 of his relatives).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!! Cant wait to hear the responses.

Re: Help!!! Cant find a venue!!! Brooklyn/Queens
Unfortunately, Queens is already out of the way for my guests, so since Inn at New Hyde Parke is in long island, it is definitely out of the question...we prefer Brooklyn venues, but will consider Queens.
This is exactly why I am having trouble finding something that suits our needs. :( The only thing i cannot budge on is the location, and there arent too many nice venues in Brooklyn that are large enough and in our price range.

That's one of the reason we picked Russo's. We both have family everywhere...Russo's was pretty much in the center of all. It's also right by the Belt Parkway too...

Yes, I made an appointment to see Russo's this weekend. So far, it seems too fit our preferences. Even though they dont allow our caterer, we will see if they can create a similar menu to what we wanted.
I do have one concern with Russo's...it can host several events, so I am wondering how many rooms they have, and how many people do they need to only host 1 event? (300 was our shortened list...he has a very big family)

Russo's has three rooms. The Renaissance is the largest and fits about 500. I highly doubt they will allow an outside vendor, but, it's worth a shot to ask. You should also ask to do a food tasting if they don't allow you to bring outside caterers. The food is excellent, but, if you've never been there you should try it for yourself.
They also offer 11 entree options for your guests to choose from during dinner...crazy!!

Ok, awesome...I cant wait to see it. I spoke to them and they wont allow the outside caterer, but they will customize our menu (which is good enough not to be a deal breaker for now).
I hope the price will be affordable, and I hope we can negotiate to be the only party there (of course, we will need a room for the cocktail hour, ceremony, and reception...so I hope they dont book any other parties). The whole 'more than one event' thing might be a dealbreaker for my wedding.
Either way, very excited to see the place. And I'm sure the food is as good as reviews say, we just needed it to be the cultural and traditional foods of my groom's culture.

I was gonna say the same thing. It's amazing. If it had been in our budget we would have gone with them. If you're negotiable on the catering (I think you have to use theirs) and it's within budget I think it's worth looking at. Your pictures would be gorgeous.
Have you considered using a tent/park setting? Have you researched Prospect park? I wonder what their weddings are like. Good luck.

Here are some venues in Brooklyn/Queens that I know of that should fit your criteria.
- Russo's on the Bay - Dyker Beach Golf Course - The Riviera Brooklyn - El Caribe Country Club
All the above places and I would also look at Roma View Waters edge Douglaston manor Abigail kirsch at stage 6

I am getting married at the Riviera in Brooklyn! The garden would never fit 300 people if that is how many you are having, but you would def fit in the reception room. what type of cultural dances does your FH do?
my SIL got maried at Russo's and had her daughter's christening there as well. Russo's is not larger than the Riviera.
We visited El Caribe, also, same size as the Riviera, but worht taking a look if you would like.

Roma view is nice for a shower, but not large enough to fit the amount of people you are talking about, hth

Waters Edge - LIC
this place is pretty, but super small. we are not having a 300 person wedding, but it wouldn't have fit a larger party

Ok so none of these are in Brooklyn/Queens but close enough and beautiful:
Inn at New Hyde Park (not very far into Nassau) Marina Del Rey (right over the whitestone bridge into the Bronx)
i was engaged once before and I was to be married at the Marina del Rey - absolutely stunning place! and would be more than big enough to accomodate the number of people you need and dancing!

Terrace on the Park Verdis of Whitestone Leonards of Great Neck Dantes in Astoria Riccardos by the Bridge Renaissance in Long Island City Grand Prospect Hall Glen Terrace
I had my last Bridal shower at Dante's - this place is super small and would never fit over 150 people! but still pretty.
Riccardo's is the type of place where you get a wedding on a budget - not a bad thing - b ut they offer like packages - but small and you would never fit 300 there
Terrace on the Park is nice, but the top floor doesn't spin anymore due to liability reasons and the food isn't that great, IMO
Verdi's is nice, but not big enough for 300 - try their counterpart in LI for the larger location.
Leonard's is great! my sister got married there last year and you can have the top floor that fits up to 1000 people!

Ditto to all above. My older son had his wedding at the Riviera Brooklyn and it was fabulous. I consider it the Russo's of Brooklyn only a little better because it is only 1 wedding at a time and they have a nice outdoor area where you can pics and your guests can get some air.
There is also the Rex Manor, Sirico's and Gennaro's all are very nice and within your budget. Good Luck!
Gennaro's max limit is 130 people

Re: Help!!! Cant find a venue!!! Brooklyn/Queens
Ditto to El Caribbe (beautiful but way out of my price range) and Russos always puts on a spectacular event, IMO.
Have you considered having a shuttle from a certain location for all guests back and forth. It would be a cost to you, but might be worth it to find a place of your dreams and not settle for one location.
