My wedding is in less than 2 months. A family friend and justice of the peace is going to be marrying us. I spent a great amount of time researching the traditions of the roman catholic, greek orthodox, and jewish wedding ceremonies and wrote a detailed ceremony that included the best of all three. I am roman catholic, but my dad is greek orthodox, and my FH is jewish.
After weeks of trying to get my FH and my parents to read it and give me feedback, this weekend my parents finally decide to tell me that it's inappropriate. their fear is that it will piss off some of the old school greeks.
now, I have to start all over and I don't know what to do. My ceremony is going to be so impersonal and boring and i just feel so overwhelmed. I have so much to do for the wedding, now I have to redo this. I've been working like a maniac this last month and there is no end in site. I just feel really disheartened from it all.

Re: Help! Ceremony!
Crashing- Honestly if YOU like what you wrote then go with it. Its your wedding and if you piss off someone else then thats their problem. You obv spent a TON of time working on making sure that it incorporated everyone and you didnt even have to do that. Go with what you and your FH feel comfortable with and if thats what you wrote out then theyre gonna just have to deal with it. Good luck!

You have to let them know this is the New School. Trying to please everyone takes away from what is true to you.

I agree..i dont think a ceremony should be impersonal anyway..thats the moments where you will marry your best friend and nobody should tell you in which way to do so.. best of luck!

Re: Help! Ceremony!
Oh no! I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I am doing a similar thing, with my FBIL as the officiant for our Catholic/Jewish mash up of a ceremony. At first, my FMIL wasn't happy about it, but we stuck to our guns and explained our thoughts. She still wasn't thrilled, but I think she realized that this is our wedding and we are going to do what we want, how we want it, regardless of her feelings on it. My grandmother is also concerned about offending the older orthodox members of my family, but, um...hello, I'm marrying a Catholic on Shabbat. At this point, I really can't start trying to make them happy! Just try to remember that the only people you need to make happy are yourselves, and that if they would hold something that makes you happy against you, trying not to offend them isn't worth your time. The people who you truly care about will be there to support you no matter what decisions you make.
