Here's my dilemma girls ... please let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.
Maria's christening is in 2 weeks at the Milleridge Carriage House. We should be having about 75 guests, mostly families, some with young children.
Someone suggested that I hire entertainment for the kids. I want this party to be fun for everyone, however, I don't really want the kids to get nuts. (You know? I have visions of kids running around crazy .. & I Know I'll be upset with that.) I'd like to keep them occupied, but can't see bringing in someone. I see that more for a birthday party. This is a much nicer place!
Please help! Any ideas would be appreciated ... I'd also love to know what you're experience has been at these kinds of events!

Re: Help! Christening Planning ....
I went to a Christening and they had a magician for the kids. It was a huge hit!!!! It was much more low key than say Elmo or Barney

Re: Help! Christening Planning ....
how about a character artist...that draws their portraits...does face painting?
magician is a good idea as it will work for boys and girls...they can be low key as well

Re: Help! Christening Planning ....
How about a 'goody' bag for each kid filled with stuff that would keep them occupied for awhile? Coloring books, puzzles, etc.?

My cousin had a magician as well at their son's baptism. It was great for the kids as well as the adults.

A magician ... hmmm.... I may have to look into that. I didn't want this turning into a circus, but that may work.
Deb ... I was thinking along the same lines .... maybe both! What did you do for the kids @ Gianna's christening?

I did what Deb suggested -- made up goodie bags with coloring books, crayons, little games, etc. (I scoured Party City). I put them in little paper gift bags (pink for girls, blue for boys). It kept most of them entertained for a while.

Hi Christine, I like this idea... I did this for the kids at my wedding and it occupied them for a while!
But on the magician note, I went to a 1st bday party for my friends daughter and she hired a magician. I thought it was a great idea! Plus it kept the kids altogether and calm for about an hour! Good luck!

Re: Help! Christening Planning ....
Christine, I was going to do this but since I ended up having a blizzard the weekend of Gianna's christening, a lot of the kids (parents too of course) ended up not coming!!!! I ended up with just 6 and they entertained themselves playing (I only had a dinner, which lasted about 4 hours).

Christine this may or may not help. But if you find you are in a pinch, my mom works for a costume company and can rent a children's costume if you know someone that will dress up and entertain the kids.
