HELP COmputer experts PLEASE

I deleted something not sure what and i rebooted and I lost my entire desk top there is nothing there but my wall paper and the mouse arrow no start button or anything. I need to fix this without telling anyone here in the office. Please if you can help me. I am on someone else's computer right now

hmm...i hope you didnt delete explorer.exe (which its kinda hard to do that)

if you are running xp, you want to run system restore...and go to a date in which you know the pc was working...

Windows 98. I am trying to reinstall windows from my CAB files..whateverthat means..i hope this works..

I fixed it well not really but i have icons and a start button and internet access I just can not print and connect to my network files...it went back to a different version of windows i guess from the girl who had the comuter before me.

sounds messy...as much as i remember win98, i don't remember win98. does your company have an IT deptarment or is this like a small business? how come you are installing windows?

is the printer local (attached to your machine or network printer)

maybe the network card is not installed (most windows 98 items need to be installed from disk)

I am not sure ..we are a small company and i am trying to fix it so i do not get in trouble for deleting what i thought was something innocent....i am happy to have what i have right now it is at least something to work with. I had nothing but dos and that is horrible.

nah...windows 2000 is what windows xp is built on..so if you hate 2000, you hate xp. Win2000 was the most stable OS of its time but users are more into the GUI interface. Yes, windows 2000 looked similar to Windows 98, 2000 was doing the processering 1000 times better then 98 and Me

Windows ME(illiuem) is the worst.. this was built on Windows98 which is also bad (in our time today) Back when all we had was windows 98, i HAD to do the job.

me & our dept. assistant are the only ones with it. We happened to get to computers the week Dell thought it was a good idea to pacakage them with ME.

I think it has to completely breakdown before I can get anything else.

XP is best thus far. Stable, much faster and something else - just can't think what it is right now. Oh yeah, I remember, expensive!
