I purchased my gown from David's Bridal a few months ago. It really wasn't the dress that I wanted and fell in love with. I know, I know. I bought it because it fit really well and I was planning a wedding in six months at this point (this was right after we bumped the wedding from 4/10 to 9/09) and I was worried about it coming in in time and things of that nature so I really talked myself into it. Since then I have made myself like my dress and it's a beautiful dress. I've had 3 little crying breakdowns since planning the wedding and they've all been about the dress, I wish I would have gone back and ordered the dress I loved but they couldn't guarantee it would've come in in time to alter it so I lived with it. The other day I decided I owed it to myself to go look at different gowns and see if I could find something similar that I loved. I found two dresses that I love. The dress shop said that they could take the top of the one piece that I love and put it on the bottom that I like. Also, one has more silver stitching but I prefer white. I'm really excited about maybe getting a different (and more comfortable dress since mine is sooo heavy, all satin and I've since been looking and reception dresses and these would allow me to wear it the entire day!) But I'm also really hesitant because I've now been through dress regret so
I'm going to flood the topic with pics and ask for honest feedback and opinions. The sample sizes did not love me and the one with the skirt I loved was cut for someone 4'10'' and I'm almost 5'9'' which was comical, the top of it barely reached my navel, but you can get the idea. Thanks girls!
This is the top from the gown that I'm thinking of:

Im going to be perfectly honest here and tell you that I love the dress from DB!! Its so different and I think its gorgeous. But with that being said you have to be happy.
I agree it is very nice BUT you have to be happy with the dress If not then get another one You have to feel comfortable in it

Very nice dress!! If you don't love the first dress you got, dont wear it. Maybe you could sell it? and get some money back?
ITA! You should get the one you love and try and sell the other or get your money back!

I say do what you like and sell the old one...if you put an ad on craigslist or even on here, you will get it sold!
You picked out such pretty dresses! I do really like the DB one- but I also really like the other ones- if you want to mix and match and make your own creation (and you can afford it) go for it!

Thanks, Kelly. Actually mixing, matching & alterations are about half the price of what I paid at DB without alterations for a dress that was delivered broken, stained and late...isn't that a slap in the face I'm past the point of being about it though.

See I had a fine experience with Davids- although I wouldn't DARE have my alterations done there. I had them done by someone my aunt knows for super cheap. I actually bought one dress and changed my mind and was lucky enough to have a sales girl who got the manager to take my original dress back! I was very lucky (although the first one I chose was only $150). When I went for my first fitting the woman noticed that all the hooks for the bustle weren't there and that it wouldn't hold so she added some. I guess youg et what you pay for!
I think it is great you are trying to create that dress yourself! I like the originality!

My honest opinion is I really like your original dress so much better, I love it! However, its what you feel comfortable in that counts. Good luck!

Yeah mine had eye hooks ripped out among other things. I'm glad your experience worked out well. :) My dress was still $1150 from DB though, it was from one of their more expensive collections. It wasn't like that when I bought it, I didn't have any alterations done there other than a bussle and when I picked it up I didn't realize that someone else had tried it on besides me. This I knew from the snapped eye hooks, one of the stains that was NOT there when I bought it and some other issues like it was on the sales floor and not in the back where they usually have dressed hanging waiting to be picked up but I was a dummy and didn't realize it for a while because to me that stuff is unthinkable. Also, when they press it, they usually put it in the hanger pinned to stuffing in the shape of a body but the stuffing was ripped out and thrown in the bottom of the garment bag, that was an issue too. Westbury DB wasn't willing to hear me out, they just kept saying 'final sale' and Lake Grove sounded horrified but said they couldn't do anything about it. My credit card company said I couldn't dispute a face to face transaction.

I like the very first one you posted...and the last one from DB. I don't care for the poofy, I think someone said, 'cupcake looking' one. My dress is similar to the first dress, so I am a little biased. ;)

First off, we just stayed at Danfords for a friends wedding - what a BEAUTIFUL location. I would go with the dress you want. As long as you can get it in time, you only have this day once. There are options for the other dress too - from selling your other dress to donating to a charity (if you can swing the monetary loss). You can make another bride's day and still wear what you dreamed of. JMO.

i went to DB and tried on that same dress. i was debating wether to get it or not and ended up not doing it. i had another dress is mind i had tried on a week before and beleive or not it was only 200 more that the dress at DB. they quoted me 1100 i believe because i needed extra length. so the difference wasnt much and i got the dress i always wanted. so if you can afford to get another dress then go ahead and do so. its important how you feel and i know the feeling when i pick something and am not happy with it at the end. good luck.

I really love your DB gown, it's beautiful! Since you asked for honest, my opinion of the other dress you are thinking of is that I love it with it's original bottom as opposed to the other bottom you picked to go with it. As for what you should do, only you can answer that. If they can get a new dress in on time for you and you can afford it, then do it, if it is going to make you happy! After all, that is the most important thing! Either way you go though, the dresses are beautiful.
