My FMIL (we ahve had a pretty rocky history but everything is better) wants her escort (a friend who I have only met once) to wear the same tux as my guys and our dads.
I want him in a tux but not the same one.
FH wants to make his mom feel special,
Help, I think its a big deal to wear the 'special tyux' our special family members are wearing. I don't think it is appropraite for him to wear the same tux, I kinda see it as a priveledge.
She wants the name of the place we went to so he can go rent the tux.

Sorry to say, but I think if you're honest with her, things might get rocky again. Ask FH to talk to her about it, and let her know that tuxes are for men in the bridal party ONLY. I don't think that it's right that she want a friend of hers (her escort) to be in a tux when he's not part of the wedding.

Re: help FMIL
I can totally understand!
My Aunt, who's younger son was in the BP got the same tux as the BP for her older son. When I saw him in it, and every time I look at the pictures (b/c she forced him in every picture w/ the BP) I want to shoot her!
Perhaps you can tell your FI your thoughts and explain that his Mother will be special b/c she's the Mother of the Groom? However, not to sound cold hearted, but you both have only met him once?
My Mom tried to play devil's advocate and say, 'if it made him (the son) happy, was it the end of the world'... NO, it's not the end of the world, but it is your wedding and everyone in your BP, parents etc... are to feel extra special that day. Best of luck to you!

I want to first say that I completly understand about a difficult FMIL. mine is!!! I totally agree with you, however, if you are anything like me - i tend to do whatever i can to 'keep the peace' My suggestion is let him wear the tux, but maybe get 'special' buttineres instead? I dont know.. I just can relate. I have a nightmare for an FMIL Good luck!!! Jennifer

I think to 'keep peace' I would just let him... it's only a tux... people there will prob not even notice he's in the same one... I wouldn't let this stress you out...

I am having a Black Tie optional invitation, so alot of people are gonna be in tux's. I want the special people iin my life to stand out, not him.

Stand your ground. You feel strongly about this, as would I. Talk to FH, and ask him to politely tell your mom that her escort wear a regular suit, or have a different tux, maybe with a vest (if GM don't have them), or with bow tie only (if GM have vests).
Good luck!

I agree! I would not want him to wear the same tux either. I would have FH speak to her about it and suggest that he wears something slightly different.

Is the rental place a small one where you can call and talk to someone in charge? I'm wondering if you call the rental place and tell them your situation. Maybe when he goes the salesman can explain to the man that the BP is wearing Style X tuxes and he should wear Style Y because it will look very nice together. Maybe they can even say all their Style X's are reserved for your week-end! I don't know how you can say anything without it back firing. If anything, I agree it should be yoiur fiance who tells his mom. Good luck.
