Help friend is canceling wedding

Hey girls, i was wondering if anyone had advice on writing a letter to family and bridal party, regarding canceling wedding plans indefinately, without going into detail on the circumstances. Thanks so much!

I am assuming invites have not gone out? If not than other than telling the bridal party I do not see why a letter needs to be sent to the family, I mean she could but they will hear it was called off. If she dosent plan on telling details a simple word of mouth its been called off should suffice in my opinion HTH

I agree - if the invites haven't gone out yet - it's really not necessary.

I was a bridesmaid for a friend that cancelled a wedding in November (wedding was scheduled for March) invites hadn't gone out yet so it was just word of mouth.....

If the invites havent gone out there is no need to write letters...Word of mouth will do

not necessary if invites arent out yet...

UNLESS.. people gave engagement gifts.. they i would return the money/gifts and write them a note thanking them for their thoughtfulness and tell them the wedding will no longer take place.

If invites have gone out, or STD's I would recommend a simple card like 'we regretfully are informing you the wedding of X and X will not be taking place as scheduled.'

If they sent STDs and then you don't say its not taking place, then aren't people saving the date for no reason?

I dunno.

I am sorry to hear that your friend is going through this.

If she wants to put something in writing (or have someone send something on her behalf), she could write something like this:

Dear Friends and Family,

As some of you may already have heard, FH and I have decided to postpone our wedding for the forseeable future. As always, we appreciate your love, support and understanding, especially during this difficult time. While we are sure that you are all concerned about our well being, please understand that this is too sensitive a subject for us to discuss with you in further detail right now.

With appreciation,

My friend canceled her wedding right before they were going to send out invitations. Literally 2 months before. They didn't send out the invitations and they never sent out a letter or anything. People just found out through WOM.

Your friend should really reimburse her girls for the dress cost or at least partially.
