HELP GIRLS... I have a little bet with DH regarding Destination Weddings!

Back story: We were talking about how all oh his brother's friends have had destination weddings and I bet his brother will too
He's like 'Awesome!' and goes on to say how when people have destination weddings they pay for everyone to stay and stuff all you have to pay for is your flight.
I say other wise - Don't you have to pay for everything (like flight AND HOTEL)??? And I immediately said, 'I'll ask the wedding experts over at LIW...'
So who's gone to a destination wedding, and what did you pay for???

i was invited to one but didnt go. I would have had to pay for flight and hotel...and give a gift. You do give less of a gift bc you have the added expenses of attending.

I've never been to one, but I have several friends that have, and they've already paid their own way.

For people who really want a small, intimate wedding, this is often a good idea because people won't go. But if you really want people to go, you risk them declining, or coming but giving a smaller gift (since they are spending so much to get there). But that last part is not as important, but matters to some i guess.

you have to pay for your own way! your flight, the hotel and you have to give a gift!

i don't know where he got that idea? has he been watching platinum weddings on We TV where they are uber rich and can pay everything for everyone?

I actually just got invited to one in Playa del Carmen and was initially planning on going.

As I was reviewing the info in the invite, it said that the all- inclusive resort is $233 per person per night!!!! So $466 per night for FH and I.

There is NO WAY i would spend that much $$ on anyone besides myself and family... needless to say we are not going now.

I also called the resort to see if we could still attend the wedding if we stayed somewhere else, and they said that we need to purchase a day pass which is $200 per person.... !Again, there is no way I am going to pay $400 to attend the wedding plus hotel, flights etc etc

Unfortunately, as a guest, you front the ALL costs

I went to a destination wedding in Aruba 3 years ago and we paid for the hotel (all-inclusive) and the flights ourselves but it was well worth it. Normally the guest attending pay from my understanding but the couple getting married doesn't usually expect gifts or as much in the envelope, even though we still made sure to give one.

Shaun has a destination wedding in May, and he has to pay for everything...

i know some people pay for everything, but its not as common as it used to be... because of how popular destination weddings have become...

Ive only been to one destination wedding and they paid for everyone's flts and hotels, but he's extremely loaded so that doesnt really count.. Most of my friends or people that i have spoken to about destination weddings usually pay for themselves to go ..

I had to pay my own way! It could have been worse though... One of my BM had to pay her own way to a destination wedding... in ALASKA! I still can't believe she went.

lol yes you are right....you pay your own way....altho the gift is debatable...I was 2 seconds away from being a DW bride...tell him the expert told you so lol

I'm going to a destination wedding in May to Turks and Caicos and it is sooooo expensive and we are paying for it all and i've been to at least 2 others and we have paid for it all!!! I have heard of some pp doing that but maybe it is a small wedding and not alot of pp!

Well, we had a 'mini destination' wedding...in Connecticut. We paid for all of the bridal party's hotel rooms, but that is it. Everyone else paid for their own traveling/hotel rooms/etc.

I haven't been to one but a close friend was a BM in one. She had to pay fare/accomidations but whatever extras. Like her dress, hair and makeup Plus a gift

I've never been, but I've read the etiquette and the bride and groom are not responsible for paying their guests travel and accomodations.

Was invited to 2 destination weddings and was told I'm responsible for all my hotel and flight accommodations. Sometimes the invite made that pretty clear too.

i have 2 destination weddings under my belt.....

one to jamaica we spent 6K!!!!!! airfare and hotel.... another this may to turks and caicos and we are shelling out 3500 for a WEEKEND-- we didnt give a gift to the jamaica wedding and we wont be giginv one to the turks and caicos wedding--- my friend and i threw the brides shower for the may wedding.....so we will not be givivng a gift to that one either..... this is jut my opinion!!!!!!

i went to one in cape may - which wasn't much of a destination wedding for me, but her whole family came from CA and his whole family from GA. as far as i know they didn't pay for anything for anyone except the groom's parents rented a house on a beach the night before for the RD and invited everyone to sleep on the floor for free
