Original post by ajlgmm815

SO my FMIL called me and said that my FH will be taken off her insurance policy as of march1st he doesnt work he is in his last year at law school, our options are she pays cobra for him which is 550.00 a month or we get married early in a civil ceremony and thens till do our regular stuff the only people that would know would be our immeditate families. What should i do i spoke to Fh and he is all for getting married early he said im marrying you anyway in 6 months. AHHH!!

You should check with your health insurance plan- I know that some plans will let you add a domestic partner...It is fairly simple you just have to provide proof that you have been living together for more than six months...but if you and FH both want to get married sooner than go for it!

I understand your reservations... I would have some too. But if I were really in that situation, I would probably go ahead and do the civil ceremony. I know that you want the wedding to be the first day of your marriage but... You are having a wedding to celebrate getting married... Not having a marriage to celebrate getting a wedding... So try to think of it that way... The whole thing is about you guys getting married... So do it! You can still have the works later :)

FH's friend did the same thing last winter and they got married over the summer all for health insurance reasons too. No one really knew about the civil ceremony either.
