appetizers: some classic ones most people like such as, stuffed mushrooms, baked clams, stuffed shrimp with crabmeat, calamari, shrimp cocktail, mozzarella with tomato with balsamic vinegar and olive drizzled on it. Shrimp or vegatable dumplings, foccaccia bread, mozzarella sticks, fried zucchini, mini quiches, mini spinach pies, coconut shrimp, empanadas, chicken skewers to name a few...Not saying to do all just throwing ideas out there lol.
For entree: you can do a pasta bar, i saw rachael ray do this on her show and it looked like a great idea, you make like 4 different sauces, and a few types of pasta and let everyone pick what they want. You can make something else for the pasta to eat with, maybe chicken francaise, eggplant parm, chicken rollatini, or some type of chicken or maybe veal dish.
Maybe do a steak dish instead of all that, with mashed potatoes, green beans, or asparagus and some other side dishes.
Depends on what your guests like: or to make it simple you could do lasagna, roast beef...I love cornish hens and make side dishes for that.
Good luck

serve cocktails for sure! that always makes a good party or if you plan on eating Italian food like lasagna (as you mentioned) try different wines!

If you're making lasagna, I'd just serve it with wine, salad, and bread.. also a great dessert.

I think you'd be fine with a caesar salad and cheesy garlic bread. Also pepperidge farm makes Texas Toast, I can't get enough of it! I'd take it over homemade any day!!!
I do know that my FMIL gets these fresh stuffed bread apps from an italian deli. There's one stuffed with pepperoni, one with broccoli, one with spinach, one with sausage and peppers... They're so good as appetizers. You can prob get them at any italian deli.
Finish it off with italian dessert! Tiramisu, italian pastries, etc.! Don't forget the spiked cappucino!

for 10 people, it's important to avoid hand-making mini items.... becuase it will be really labor intensive.
baked brie with raspberry preserves
trader joes mini quiches
veggies and dip
For the entree, things like lasagne, a couple casseroles or a stew are best. for new years, I made veal paprikas (a paprika-filled goulash).
for the lasagne route, you can always make garlic bread, and a big salad.....

Appetizer- Shrimp cocktail is always nice and easy....somewhat pricey, but simple and really good!! I always make homeade bruschetta....it goes over very well (6 beefsteak tomatoes gutted and diced. 1/2 a red onion diced, 2 tbsp. Olive Oil 2-4 cap fulls of Newmans Own balsamic Vinegarette. Mix all together and sprinkle basil thoughout.) I also make my own bread with it (easier than it sounds). You get two long loaves of either Italian or french bread. Slice in about 1' pieces. Brush one side of bread with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic powder and salt and broil for about 5 minutes until toasty. Flip all pieces over and repeat. Service both on a dish with brushetta in the middle.....SOOOOO good!! I get RAVE reviews about it and it's a little different then norm.
For dinner I would do something that can be made easily in bulk. Lasagna is a good idea you can put it with salad and garlic bread.....I'm having a little dinner on Wed. for my brother's bday and we're doing shrimp and bruschetta and Chicken parm and pasta for dinner (his favorite) GOOD LUCK!!!

i second the bruschetta idea... always a hit!!
you can even add some chopped fresh mozzarella to mix to make it different and more delicious!
for a nice salad... do lettuce.. chop salami, ham and provolone.... and some tomatoes, olives, and peppers... olive oil and balsamic vinegar....

a few weeks ago when we ordered dresses i had everyone over for dinner, totally casual. appatizer kind of stuff. it was just nice that everyone got to spend time with each other-since some of them were oot. you cant go wrong with lasagna....maybe some home made garlic bread, and wine-i'd be sold with that!!

food network has great recipes. For finger food, my MOH once made toasted bread with pesto sauce, and a sliced cucumber on top. It was really simple but it was so delicious!

We had the same situation ... we are having their significant others ... so it comes to a total of 13. Because I have an Out of towner I felt like I had to have the others bring their girlfriends and boyfriends. But I think you can decide what works best for you and your group! have fun!
