Okay so I went dress shopping yesterday and its like 6-7 months til my wedding. When I went in the girl was like 'good thing you came now cause it takes 6-8 months to order a dress if we dont have it in your size/style'.
First off, the place I went to (which is in Pittsburgh so dont worry about encountering it) was terrible. However, is this quote unreaasonable? It seems a little long if you ask me!! I would assume it would not that this long (but then again what do I know I just started looking!!!)
Should I be concerned that I did not pick out a dress yet or does this only become an issue for the big designers that are popular that you have to order specially because no one carried them in stores?

I think it really depends where u look and what type of dress. A lot of places estimate 6-8 months. A lot of places also have sample sales and U get the dress that day and have it altered. I'm sure there are lots of brides out there who waited until a few months before the wedding.

depends on the size, designer, detailing, etc.
i know my cousin said if i want to get my dress at kleinfelds where she works i need to come in no later than january b/c its 8 months min.

i think it also depends on the designer and how many changes you're making to the dress itself, right?
at least the place who told you 6-8 months was somewhat reasonable...when i began looking for a RH in early June, I stopped into a bridal center (a very well known one on Jericho Tpk) and the sales lady was annoying me to try on a dress...I kept telling her my wedding is more than a year away and she said that some dresses take over a year to come in! Now THAT I find unreasonable!!

it depends but yeah 6-8 months is the norm...some take 8-10 months...i ordered mine in march of 07 and it wont be here until march of 08

well i live and hour , hour and a half from pittsburgh, and i bought my dress here in johnstown pa. at celestial brides, and mine takes 6-8 mos, mine wont be here until march or so, and i feel like i ordered it along time ago.
