HELP! How to let down a vendor you like but aren't choosing?

Hi lovely ladies

I need some help. SO, I met with like 10 potential planners (I'm a bit nuts about finding the right one). I knocked a bunch off right away but then had 4 of them call my mom (who lives in Canada). There were two I liked but who were really expensive; when I told them that they both lowered their prices but are still a bit pricey AND I think I like someone else better. After they did so much for me (talked to my mom and gave me a lower quote) how do I now tell them I've decided to go with someone else? They were both so lovely but I just didn't feel the click I needed, plus my mom liked others better.

Thoughts?

Like a band-aid, quick and to the point. They'll appreciate your honesty more than anything!

I agree. I met with a DOC that was charging based on the number of guests expected at the wedding; I was expecting 250 guests and she told me it would cost me $2500. I told her I chose another DOC and she asked why and I told her straight out her prices were too high. She wished me all the best and that was it.

don't feel bad its a business nothing personal. Just tell them you appreciate everything they have done for you but you have decided to go another way.

I think this is the perfect way of doing it.

ITA!! And as in any business, you hear no's, so they're used to it. Don't worry.

If you're nervous, you can just write an email to them. Be like 'Just wanted to thank you for meeting with me, but I decided to go with someone else.'

email... or call on 'off' hours and just leave a message. I know it is childish but it is hard to let down vendors who you actually like.

This is probably the best way to go about it...I am sure the vendor would appreciate the honesty. Business is business.

yeah, i say just tell them it was a really hard decision, but in the end you chose someone else. they've dealt with it a million times. but........does this mean you chose you know who???

I usually stick with the standard 'Thank you, but I've already booked with another company.' Short, sweet, and honest - even if you haven't actually booked yet.

I haven't decided 100% yet but she is one who is still ON the list, its between her and 1, maybe 2 other people. My dad is out of town and I need him to review the proposals before making a final decision.

That is a perfect thing to say! I said something similar when I booked other vendors. If it was me, I would rather hear from them than just be left wondering because they never called me back.
