Does anyone have like 3-4 hours between ceremony ending and thier cocktail hours. What should my guests do for 3 and a half hours????

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
Our Ceremony is at 3pm and the CH is at 6:30pm. To be honest...I'm not overly sure what the guests will be doing. I do know that my aunt said she would 'open her doors' since they live close to the RH...

my FMIL was willing to do the same, but what do the guests do? Do they just sit around and chat for 3 hours?

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
I think I will have a big gap between the church and reception. I think my aunt will have some family back to her house and most of our friends will be meeting at a hotel and drinking.

We have a house two blocks from the church, were we will serve some food and non-alcholic drinks. They chill there for two -three hours then they go to the reception.

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
I have a huge gap and my parents are thinking about having people over to the house, and serving some food and refreshments.
On the other hand I have been to plenty of weddings with a huge gap and we were left to fend for ourselves.

Anytime I've been to a wedding with a huge gap in time, we've ended up killing time at a bar/restaurant on the way to the reception.

Unfortunately, in my experience when there is a really big gap - some people will not attend the ceremony. You will have family and close friends but some will just come to the reception. I think that stinks, but it happens. I always like when the family has something small at the house inbetween the two. Some people might just go home and get changed too.

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
We are getting married on a Friday in Brooklyn at 3pm and then the CH begins at 6:30 but it is Lindenhurst so we it could go either way...
It could be that we all get stuck in traffic and just make it there in time or we could get there in 35 minutes and then what do we do????

I agree, unless it was family, I would probably skip the ceremony. JMHO

our church is at 1:30pm and our CH is at 6pm
like the poster above said.....the guests will decide what they want to do on their own....they can go back home if it is convenient for them
our parents will not be hosting anything since i want them to come with us to OWG for pics

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
My guests that will be staying at the Hotel, will go to the hotel and check in and hang out there until the shuttle comes...they have a bar there, so they can start the party early and my other guests will probably go home and change b/c they are probably not going to come to the church dressed.

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
My church is at 3:30 and will be over at 4:30. CH starts at 6:00. I'm sure they will want you for pictures outside after church so you can kill another 45 min doing that. I am inviting my guests to the park I am going to to take more pictures and my aunt is staying at my house so out of towners can have coffee and sit for a while. Don't forget you still have to account for travel time to the reception hall and everyone has to get their cars parked. Don't worry hun. Everything will take care of itself. Just show up in your dress and smile!

I was wondering the same thing but I wasnt exactly sure how to word it. If you have family that is willing to accomodate your guests that is fine and very helpful. But I was wondering if you have more than a 2 hour gap what exactly will the guests do? Is you wedding going to be formal? Or black tie? The disadvatage some people may go home. Sad but people are like that sometimes

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
My church is at 3pm and the CH starts at 7pm. We figured we wanted to leave alot of time for pictures. We figured the ceremony should be atleast 45minutes to an hour. We are going to take pics at the church then the travel time to get to CH should kill sometime. I figure everybody will probably want to watch the pics at the church, if not then they will just have to find something to do in between then. It took us awhile to figure out what we were going to do.

Re: Help, huge gap between ceremony and CH
We have a few hours between the mass and the CH..
Both sets of parents are going to have people over...
Also, everyone lives close by and the church and RH is close, so some people might go home...
