Last night I had a weird pain in my mouth and looked inside and saw I cracked my molar. I called the dentist and he is seeing me on Saturday at 10 AM.(Say a little prayer for me) . He said he will either have to cap it or may be able to fill it. YIKES... here comes the novacaine and sweet air. I am so scared of the dentist, I have not been there in awhile, and I had a bad experince with a dentist when I was little. ( A different dentist). Any advice or words of encouragement?

Does your dentist have a flat screen tv type thing where you can watch a movie or videos while in the chair? Mine does & I find this helpful, because I too hate the dentist & I am also afraid to go but just think, if you don't go, you may wind up in pain somehow. I'm not sure that anyone enjoys going to the dentist...but here is what I do...
MUSIC is a must...turn it on...LOUD...tell the dentist to tap you if he needs you to do something...
ask the dentist how long he thinks it will take...when the drilling starts...start to count very slowly...you will NEVER reach the number...
afterwards smile to the dentist... I read somewhere that dentists have the highest suicide rate, b/c everyday they put people in pain...so I always try to crack jokes...and then it soothes me as well

Don't worry hon. I had this happen a couple of weeks ago. If it didn't go far, which it doesn't sound like it did, you won't need root canal. Either way, you won't feel anything!

Survived the chair of terror this morning....I have to have root canal. ugh!He started it today, it was not too bad, hopefully it will not be. I have a temp filling, has anyone had root canal? If so, what was your experience?

I just had a root canal on my front tooth yesterday. I chipped it when I was little and the nerve died and my tooth started to turn yellow. A root canal was my only option to get it white. The root canal itself wasn't too bad, I just hated the sound of the drill chipping away at my tooth. Now it hurts like a *****! My tooth is throbbing in pain, and it hurts to eat or drink. I don't go for my post and crown till the 25th. Thankfully I have some Vicodins left over from when I was in the hospital!

DaniRN: I feel your pain! I am so scared and kind of ticked at my dentist, I will be going on FH insurance at the end of the month, so the dentist said to me while we are waiting for the approval, I will do a complete exam and a cleaning... I just want the root canal done and then the cleaning etc. I just want this done ASAP. So many people have told me horrible things about root canal, it was not too bad last night, I took darvocet, put I had nightmares I was thinking it is becuase it is a narcotic, FH said I was screaming in my sleep and I was having one, I vividly remember it. Good luck with your tooth, I feel so bad you are in such terrible pain. If you want Fm mail me.

I've had 2 root canals...and they are not as bad as people say...
getting the crown is not a big deal...it just pops in...the weirdest thing is getting used to the different texture of the tooth...
the best thing about root canal...nothing else can ever happen to that tooth...

Hey-just wanted to see how you were feeling with your tooth. We went out to a bar last night and I had to leave early because my whole face was in pain. Now I'm one who usually takes pain well-(I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once last year and was fine!) but this is torture!!! And my dentist gave me nothing! Like I said, thank god I had some leftover pain meds or i'd be dying! Hope you're doing better than me!

DaniRN: I feel so not myself today. It hurts a lot where the injection was given... I had 4 novacaine shots! I am on antibiotics, which is making me so hungry! But I do not want to eat becuase of the pain. The pain medication barely worked, I might take something stronger, I do have other stronger ones in my house.(Stronger strenght of darvocet) I took off tomorrow from work and my boss was not too happy, but my theory is I work part time and have Fh benefits, too @#$n bad on my boss! I told him I was going to the dentist, did not want to say I felt crappy, cause he would have told me to **** it up and to come in! How r u feeling today?
