Help! I have an interview and need to do a demo lesson On ADDING INTEGERS!!!!
Im in a very starnge situation right now. Thanks to Angela I have an interview and I have to do a demo. in a middle school in queens. There is a position available for a 7th grade CTT teacher that will be teaching math and science. I am not certified in math or science but she told me to send my resume over bc I am certified in spec. ed ( but its elementary) I just got an interview for wed. and I have to do a demo lesson and it has to be 7th grade math. I have no idea what to do! Help please!!
OK girls! Ang told me they are doing adding integers in class. Any suggestions? TIA!

Gail, I just emailed the kids' math teacher...she'll tell me what they're up to and we'll work from there. I would say your lesson should definitely involve some kind of manipulatives since they're special ed kids...I'll start searching for something good.
I'm so excited that we could be co-workers! What time is your interview?

I would use integer chips if you have them or just glue two different color papers together and circles out of them. assign one side (color) positive integers and the other side (color) negative a pair of positive and negative cancel each other out. I have my student write in out in an organizer for ex
-6 + 3 - + - + - + - - -
since there are 3 negative not matched up the answer is -3. HTH let me know if you need anything else

I'm not math certified, but I'm spec. ed. certified.
My principal and supervisor like to see me doing interactive lessons. One thing I do alot is write words (or in your case numbers) on index cards, using masking tape and have the kids tape them to the board. It gets them moving and its more hands on.
Maybe you can gve each kid part of the equation and have them put it in order? (I do that with words and we make sentences).

Use the number line and if you can bring in something that they can place on the number line such as beads or marbles, they will get a better understanding of integers. Are you just adding? Look online too..good stuff
