Help I need a cigarette!!!!!!!!

I went to the dentist yesterday, and unexpectedly she ripped out my last wisdom tooth. Then she said I couldn't smoke for 2 days, I'm freakin dying here They said smoking/nicotine can cause something called 'dry socket' which supposedly hurts like a *****!! Anyone have any experience with 'dry socket'?? God I need a cigarette!!

Dry socket is so painful! Don't smoke! And don't drink through straws! But then again I got it while doing none of those things, so you might as well get some comfort...

I agree...DON'T DO IT!
I had one pulled out, stayed awake for process and he warned me...no straws, no smoking! Well the Dumba$$ that I was smoked...cause it was the weekend and I HAD to!
I ended up w/a dry socket..it hurt SO BAD! I lived on Vicodin for 3wks. I would not like to ever experience that EVER again.

ok, I think I made my point.

i had all 4 pulled 2 years ago and smoked normally after and didnt have a problem. if it was pulled on one side smoke on the other side of your mouth.

i quit smoking 3 months before i got pregnant so i crave once in a while but its all psychological.

what is Dry Socket?

Re: Help I need a cigarette!!!!!!!!

It's when a blood clot either doesn't form or is loosened from the site of the extraction. If there is no blood clot there nerves as well as the jawbone can be exposed causing mild to severe pain, accompanied by what feels like an earache. These symptoms usually persist for 2 weeks. It is treated with a packing they place in the socket that must be changed several times, as well as antibiotics and some pain meds.

I had two teeth pulled on Wednesday and I drank through a straw for hours afterwards. Nobody told me not to.

I caved!!!I smoked last night, I have no willpower. I am praying that I don't get dry socket. I don't usually have an addictive personality, but smoking is my weakness. Thank you all for your support, and wish me luck.

If you are going to smoke.. Make sure you rinse with listerine after EVERY cigarette!!!!! you can get a horrible infection (i just had an infection in my wisdom tooth- not from smoking though, although i do smoke)... But it was the worst pain i've ever experienced in my life.. so make sure you rinse as much as possible to keep that area clean
