Help ladies! The date is close, invitations are out and I can't decide on favors. I am having a beach themed wedding and it is a 2nd wedding (so we are both older, 35 ). I am looking for something not so 'favory' .
All the big wigs at my FI's company are coming (he is the CFO), like the Pres, CEO, Controller, Treasurer, etc.... He doesn't want to give any favors at all, but I would like to do something to show a sign of appreciation for them attending our wedding.
On islandweddings.com they have Costa Rican coffee that you can order with personalized labels and choose a beach design. They are intended to put in the hotel rooms for out of town guests but I thought maybe they would be nice favors?
Please any suggestions will help!
Thanks!
Christine

Re: Help!! I need elegant favors for a beach wedding
I think the coffee is okay, but what if some of your guests are not coffee drinkers?
I understand how you feel - I had a difficult time choosing a favor, too. I didn't want to give candles, b/c I felt they were too overdone and I didn't want to give something that no one would use. I ended up deciding upon beach-theme suncatchers. I wouldn't call them 'elegant' but at least people could hang them on their window and think of our wedding day.
Another idea that I had considered was beach towels - I just didn't have the budget for them! Good luck!

I'm sorry I don't have a great idea for you....I tried to check out your coffee idea on the website you mentioned but it wouldn't let me on....is it islandweddings.com?

I know, I thought of that too because I can think of at leat ten people off the top of my head that are not coffee drinkers!
The beach towel idea is cool! Soemone suggested to throw blankets over each chair for the guests in case it gets cold and then use that as the favor. But I thinking, OK , who's going to pay for 70 blankets! Not in my budget!
What are suncatchers???

It's islandweddingshop.com
I already bought a lot of accessory items from them. I bought bags of seashells and starfish that I am using on my tables. I bought bags of tiny seasheels that I put in the invitations.

Re: Help!! I need elegant favors for a beach wedding
Chris - check out this thread from the Newlywed board - it's filled with ideas from some of us who used a beach/seashell theme for our weddings. I posted pics of my flowers, cake, shell centerpieces, favors and sandollar napkin rings....let me know if you have any questions
Re: Help!! I need elegant favors for a beach wedding
I'm also doing a beach theme and the favors are something I'm still trying to figure out. I saw some cute candles with shells. I think the coffee idea is nice. Not everyone drinks it but no matter what you do, you can't please everyone. At least it won't collect dust on a shelf. I love the suncatchers idea. I had a list of websites that offer beach-themed items. If I can find it, I'll post it! My friend gave away really nice flip-flops and she said they were a big hit. But I think when she sent out invites she asked people for their shoe sizes! How about boxes of shell-shaped chocolates? I think Godiva makes them. And welcome to the Older Brides Club! (I'm in my 40s!)

I am also having a beach theme wedding. I haven't decided on favors yet but I found a website that does some beach themed chocalate favors that can be custom made if you are interested. The website is www.chocalatesbymichelle.com.

This might be too casual - or too silly - but what about flip flops? People could use them right away!

How about sunglasses?
Here's a link to wholesale towels that the company can embroider a 'logo' (your names & the date of your wedding maybe?)
Overstock towels: $39.00 for a dozen (not embroidered but perhaps you can fold or roll them up in ribbon and attach seashell to the ribbon) Overstock towels
Slouch Towels (I think it's called that because they are made with a pocket to put over your lounge chair so they don't slouch down the chair when you get up) Slouch Towels

You could go a totally different route and in lieu of favors, give a donation...and if you want to keep with the theme, you could donate to a beach preservation cause/society or a sea animal cause/society.

I would only say be careful with chocolate in the sun. I really like the beach towel idea myself, or candles...they are something everyone uses sooner or later.

Gert,
Just thought of that too! I love chocolates so I wanted to do that, something like chocolate seashells, but then I thought, wow, these could melt if they're sitting outside for five hours!

Re: Help!! I need elegant favors for a beach wedding
There's an organization (based in Connecticut, but I think they have another one in Glen Cove) called Save the Sound - their charter is to protect the natural wildlife environment of Long Island Sound. I considered giving a donation to their organization for my wedding, since our reception site was overlooking LI Sound. I don't remember exactly why DH and I decided against it, but I just wanted to mention it to you as another idea. Here's their website:Save The Sound

I *love* the chocolate idea, too! Godiva has seashell chocolates, as does Guylian Belgian chocolates
