HELP ME CHOOSE...

HELP ME CHOOSE...

A charity!

FH and I are donating $$ to a charity instead of giving traditional favors

Here are our final choices

1. Alzheimers - my grandmother and grandfather both have it, his grandfather had it

2. March of Dimes - Since we have Emma and I couldnt imagine someone living with a child with a birth defect. (To those who do my hat is off to you)

3. AIDS Research - FH's uncle has it from a blood transfusion in the 80's

4. Hemophilia - FH's uncles both have it

5. American Red Cross - covers a lot

oh goodness, thats' a tough one, since you are affected by all of them.
I'd suggest lookign into the specific organizations, to see which really does the most with the money.
Sometimes money gets tied up in adminstration costs.

other wise I'd say March of Dimes or Red Cross, so you don't have to pic which disease is more 'important'.

I'm sorry to here about your family members having these illnesses.

I choose March of Dimes.

not to pick one all the others...these are all great choices.....

Re: HELP ME CHOOSE...

After working for a non-profit organization that mismanages and squanders its resources, I am very weary of who I give $$.

I would give to an organization that I know something about. I personally can't stand the United Way and American Red Cross. If I had close ties to some medical research organization then I would donate there, however right now I would stick to education, the arts and public television.

All of these are incredibly worthy programs. I chose hemophilia only because it is the one on your list with the smallest research budget, so anything you can donate to that cause will make a huge impact.
Alzheimer's would be my second choice.

I picked March of Dimes because it seemed like the least depressing (sorry- hope that doesn't sound mean). It's a happy event and you don't want your 'Aunt Mildred' thinking about how 'Uncle Fred' suffered from...... You know? My grandfather had Alzheimer's as well and I would love nothing more than to see a cure for that b/c I know how awful it was for him and all of us but I think that the March of Dimes is a great cause!!!

wow, it is hard. i myself would choose make a wish since i used to volunteer for them in high school. why not give a little to each of them? with any charity, any bit helps, so why not help them all and list them in the program?

Those are all noble causes. Personally I would do some more research to see which of those charities apply the highest % of your donation to direct care/services/research and NOT to overhead, salaries, etc.... Alot of charities do this without the donors knowing, hey they do have their operating costs but I'd want to know where my $$ is going. I think my fellow fundraisers would agree.

Re: HELP ME CHOOSE...

This is THE TOUGHEST poll I've ever seen on here

First of all, I should commend you for being so selfless & compassionate by donating money toward a charity that have touched your lives ... it is a wonderful thing you are doing.

That said, I find it hard to choose ... each one is a very worthy cause deserving of much more money than any of us can provide..

If it were ME personally, I'd probably choose Alzheimers, but that is b/c it has affected my family in vast ways .. but March of Dimes is deserving, because it encompasses a lot.

Re: HELP ME CHOOSE...

We are donating as well and decided to break it up into 2 charities, first being diabetes research, because half my family has it and my grandmother passed away from it; and the second being AIDS research because FH lost a sister to it and we want to honor them both at our wedding.

Any other opinions... good, bad, otherwise?

I personally would say Alzeiheimer's... I don't believe too many people donate to it, but of course I'm not sure. My grandfather passed away from it before I was born and I'm named after him... It's sooo scary...

Good luck!

First off how very thoughtful of you. I voted for Alzheimers...I work with them everyday and personally I don't think this devastating disease gets much support. Ultimately it is up to you and any decision you make would be good.

Thanks... I think we are going to donate to both
Alzheimers and the March of Dimes

Re: HELP ME CHOOSE...

Bravo to you for such a wonderful & selfless gesture!!!

I have always felt such heartbreak for sufferers of Alzheimer's. I couldn't imagine a loved one being with me, but not remembering me or knowing how much I love them.

All are very admirable choices & whatever you choose, those who benefit will be grateful.
