Ok, the hall charges $54 per person. We are expecting 85 people. The ceremony site fee is $500. The tax in Nassau is 8.75% (I think that is correct.) The service charge is 18%.
So what will be the total cost of the hall? BTW - (I have an answer, but I want to see what other people get.)

That's what I got.
We've paid $5,000 of that already. Trying to estimate the balance.

Yup $6531.74, if that's your number they're charging you 18% service on top of the $500. Schemers...

It's the same number whether you add the gratuity first or the tax first...no difference. Well, maybe a penny difference, but none for my package.

Sorry Girls, I got $6451.58. You can't tax gratuity.

ok.. my breakdown 54*85 = 4590 ceremony 500 ______
5090
now... 18 % of 5090 = 916.20 now..8.75^% of 5090= 445.38
I am so NOT a math person and your numbers are making my head spin but when I thought of the tax after service charge issue, I called WCC and asked about it. Turns out, it isnt illegal but they as a hall do not do one on top of the other.
I would call and find out.

That stinks! I'd be pissed. That's not right. I made sure I asked my hall before we booked. They don't do tax on top of gratuity.
I mean in the whole scheme of things it's only $80, but it's like they try to get you whereever they can!

Well, when we go back in a few weeks, we will ask them to confirm how they do the math.

Oops, that's it. It's a service charge, not a gratuity.

Re: Help me do some math
Right--they might be able to get away with taxing the gratuity by calling it a 'service charge.' I thought this discussion was brought up awhile ago...
