Help me name my new kitty!!!!!! (w/PICS now)

Okay so girls i brought home a new kitty tonight. My cat Tiger has been somewhat okay but he can get a bit aggressive. He's been pawing at him and i'm afraid one time he'll really hurt the kitty. What did you girls do???

What do we do about tonight? Tiger usually sleeps with us. But since the house is kind of big... do we just let them both roam and hope that Tiger doesn't hurt the new kitty??? Or do we lock them both in our room for the night?

***ETA: Any name suggestions?

I would say keep the kitten in a room and slowly introduce them to each other more and more. I think all cats are pretty territorial and it is normal for the older one to not like the new one right away, it takes time. And even if you didn't have a cat already I would say to keep the kitten in a room until the kitten gets more used to the house.

i would probably keep them separated if you can----at least for the night. if you have a separate bedroom that you can keep the kitten in, let the kitten stay in there so that you don't make your cat that you've had for a while feel like things are changing because of the kitten. let your cat keep his/her routine. the kitten will have more than enough room if you keep him/her in a separate room with the door closed. when i introduced my older cat to a new kitten, i kept them separated and eventually they started shoving their paws under the door because they were so curious as to what was on the other side of the door. hissing is totally normal----don't be alarmed by that.

yeah, keep them separate until their curiosity gets the best of them. :D you'll know when!

I had an issue with this when I brought a kitten home to 2 older cats. I called the vet and this is what he told me:

Keep the kitten in a room with the door closed. Give it it's own litter box and food. Only take the kitten out of the room when you are home and can supervise the kitten and the other cat. Do this for several days and take the kitten out for longer periods of time each time you take him/her out. The vet said that, eventually, the cat will get curious and start sitting outside of the room where the kitten is being kept. Then, the cat will want to smell it and be near it when you have them out together. And then, after some time, they should warm up to each other.

I tired this, and it really worked! Good luck!!

what does the kitten do when your cat swipes at him?

when we got our new kitten and our cat when up to her or did something she didnt like, she swatted right back and hissed, so we knew she could hold her own... if your kitten isnt doing anything back then i would be nervous about leaving them alone together...

oh my g-d-------they're SOOOOOO cute!!!!! my little guy's name is milo, so i'm partial to that name! did you take your kitten to the vet before you took him home? if not, you should definitely keep them separated until you bring him to a vet. i volunteer for a cat shelter so if you have any questions, feel free to FM me.

Well we got him from an animal shelter. The new kitty just kind of gets scared and backs up when Tiger swats at him.

They just need to get used to each other. I agree with everyone else...keep them separated and let them get used to each other on their own terms. After a few weeks they will be used to each other and you won't have to worry

Keep them separate for a few days and slowly introduce them. Give them equal attention, and let them get used to eachother on their own time. Animals feel eachother out and can pretty much settle there own qualms. ( Not all of them). Give it some time.

I introduced my 8 year old male cat to my new calico kitty recently and kept them apart for almost a month. Once they got used to each other's smell and what not, we introduced them for inceasingly long periods of time for about one week, keeping a close eye on them each time.

Take it slow...they'll probably fight a little at first but things will fall into place.

Well i did what you girls suggested and i slept with the new kitty in another room while my FH slept with Tiger in our room.

The new kitty cried a few times and wouldn't even let me near him. I think i barely slept 2 hours.

We brought Tiger in this morning and Tiger swatted at him a few times. It seems like Tiger is more scared of him than anything. He's so jumpy and the new kitty just backs up when he gets scared.

I didn't know it would be this difficult. It's a process i know.

My cats still hate each other! We got Boo about 5 years ago, we've had Precious for 10, and the older one still swats at the younger one! I would just keep an eye on them. They have to get used to each other. Your older cat needs to know that the new cat is staying!
