OK, so I have Brooke Shields-type eyebrows. Really thick and heavy. I tweeze them, but it's just not enough. So I want to start getting them done. Couple of q's...
My mom had her eyebrows waxed once. She had such terrible welts-- I mean, bleeding, scarring, etc. because her eyebrows are so thickly rooted that they had to rip off half her skin to get the hair out. So I've never done it.
What do you gals do? I want those thin-ish, sweeping arches like Julia Roberts (my eyebrow idol).
I'm so clueless... do all hair salons do eyebrows? What do I ask for? And what happens if I go for waxing? Do they just do it all in one big strip? Do you then pencil in more if you want your eyebrows to be 'wider?'
And I should probably get this done now to see what it's going to look like, not wait until right before the wedding, right?

Re: Help me, o brides with beautiful eyebrows
P.S. Here are my un-glorious eyebrows now. Suggestions on getting rid of bags under eyes also most appreciated!
Ok thats how I used to look until my BEST friend right before prom told me I need help. She took me to a nail salon and I got them done. I was allergic, had a reaction a lot of swelling, to the wax the first time but then I went to a different place and they seemed to use a different wax. So now I go to this place in East Northport called Best Nails and I love them. I go every 2 weeks and believe me I need it every two weeks my lip too. GOOD LUCK
Thanks, Kimmie! What do you tell them? Are you supposed to tell them what you want, or do you just trust them to do their thing?

I think you have lovely eyebrows!!! I'm a big fan of thicker eyebrows. You just need a little shaping in the arch. I would go to a high end salon or something once to have them shaped and then keep them up by going to a local place every few weeks. I'm currently letting mine grow out--they had gotten too thin for my taste. I don't ever let anyone touch the top.

I think you have great eyebrows, but we can all use a little work.
I just recently started doing threading. I like waxing, but recently tried this. It is like tweezing, and a little painful, but more precise than waxing and if you are sensitive to wax, it is ideal.

Re: Help me, o brides with beautiful eyebrows
first of all, i am a brow addict, to the point where i would love to stop people on the street and tell them the power of the brow!!! next, your brows are beautiful and have a great shape. first, if you have a unibrow, clear that up. next, have them shaped. please, whatever you do, do not thin them too much. anorexic brows come and go but beautifully defined and groomed brows will never go out of style and brooke shields has great brows. you may need a subtle arch. the important things are where the brow ends (there is a diagonal test that you can do) and where the arch is placed. you don't want helen hunt/sperm brows. NEVER HAVE SPERM BROWS!!! waxing leaves a well defined shape, but requires a lot of maintenance if you have bigger brows and is really used to just clean up the fuzz and unibrow area. another important thing is to have them trimmed. longer hairs lay differently, so what your brow specialist will do is comb them up and trim with cuticle scissors. go to your salon, not to a nail salon. specify that you want them groomed b/c your brows are fantastic. sorry, i just have seen the power that brow shaping can do.

I love you gals.
Now, I told you I was clueless. What does shaping mean? Tweezing? That's the problem-- I don't know what I'm supposed to ask for or what, exactly, they do and what my options are.
Anyone know a good place to go in the East Islip/Islip/Bay Shore area?

Re: Help me, o brides with beautiful eyebrows
I happen to like the look of thick eyebrows. Mine are not quite as thick as yours, but I do very little to them. All I do is get rid of the hairs between the 2 (no uni-brow, thank you) and 'clean up' a few straggly hairs above and below. I do very little to the overall shape. Thick brows usually have a beautiful arch to them naturally. Why mess with nature's perfection? JMO.

i am also a fan of the threading. After all of these years I just started getting my brows done. it hurts but it is worth the pain because they come out beautiful! my hair salon has a girl who does it so it is convenient for me.
