Jenny - as a trainer, how do you motivate people and keep them coming back??

I know the benefits of exercise and for some reason nothing motivates me. My laziness is stronger then my desire to be healthy (as sad as this is to admit).

Thanks!

Hi Jenny,

I actually love to exercise. But, as for why you don't exercise question-- when I have an injury I'm always concerned about when it is safe to start back and what type of exercises are okay.

Example, I pulled my back really bad 1 week ago. My dr said it would be ok to start back slowly at the gym this week, but does that me walking, light weights, ect....

Good luck!

I get bored! My FI is an avid runner and I tried to run with him but I don't have the discipline. I need someone to explain to me how to keep going. I get tired, start to hurt and lose interest. Jenny if u could help that would be great!

I find that most people know the general 'text book' benefits to exercise. In addition to the physical beneftits, I also try to teach people focus on the feelings exercise produces - the endorphins your body produces while exercising, and the psychological benefits of improved self-esteem when clothes fits, and you reach your goals.

To prevent boredom I try to constantly mix up the routine and exercises as well as constantly setting new short term goals, so that you on constantly reaching new ones (lose weight, improve cardio endurance, inprove shoulder muscle definition, improve abdonimal definition, last through one of my step classes, etc.)

I guess I'm just not motivated to exercise. I've always gone to the gym with the thought of losing weight and toning up. However, last month, I decided to change my motivation (after not going to the gym for two months). Now I exercise to relieve stress from my workday. This new motivation seems to work better and I actually was going to the gym 4-5 times a week! Then I got sick, then lazy so I'm back to square one. I also get bored doing the same thing. I know I need to change my routine every 6-8 weeks, but I don't know how.
