Help me pick a HM Cruise!

Original post by FuTuRe MrS MaZz

So I'm looking into the HM cruise route b/c Im not sure if I want to wait around for a timeshare exhange to come through...

Which ship/itinerary would you pick? They are both similiar pricing and 9 nights.

Royal Caribbean leaves from Bayonne, NJ and goes to Bermuda, St Maarten, St Thomas, and Puerto Rico

Princess leaves from NYC and goes to Bermuda, Puerto Rico, St Thomas, and Grand Turk

i actually went on the crown princess cruise you are talking about, same destinations and its the one that leaves from red hook brooklyn.

I ABSOLUTELY loved it. We had such an amazing time. The ship is beautiful with lots to do. The food was real good and the staff was amazing when we went. I also love that they have movie under the stars. They have a HUGE movie screen on one of the decks(on the 15th deck) and you can sit anywhere around the deck on lounge chairs watching a movie. I have pics of this if you want to see.

that sounds awesome Denise...i want to go!

here is the pic of it so you can get a better idea. It was great bc dh and i sat on the deck across in our own section where there were only 2 lounge chairs and then a wall on the side of us.

the 2nd pic is dh laying down outside watching the movie

the food was included, we had to pick ahead of time what time we want to have dinner and they assigned us a dining hall...crown princess had about 4 dining halls. BUT you can do anytime dining where you go anytime you want to dinner. We went with 12 ppl so everybody wanted to have dinner together so thats why we did one where we picked the time ahead of time. BUT some of the specialty restaurants on the cruise you would have to pay for if you went to it. But the dining hall always had such great food so you dont have to

Drinks were not included, the prices were pretty good though. It was about $3 for a mixed drink and about the same for beer. When you get on the ship they give you this card that looks like a CC so you use that whenever you want to get drinks, then at the end of your stay the print out your bill and you pay it then.

it was a big mix but ill say that i was even surprised at how many young people there were, well early 20's, they were everywhere. Crown princess luckily has 4 pool areas bc one pool area the younger crowd completely took over it. It was like spring break lol. The pool area had a live band everyday, caribbean type music. Whenever dh and i walked by there was a huge crowd by the pool, everyone mostly young but some older, dancing around the pool, and playing certain games. You can stay there if you want, but on the other side was alot calmer and ppl just relaxing, same with the other pool area...good thing is that they have a whole deck just for kids, so ALL the kids go to a pool on another level, they have arcades, and this fake surfing thing, mini-golf and thats where the kids stay.

they definitely do have alot of activities. They have a bunch of classes, you'll get a schedule of things and see what you want to participate in. I know BIL and his gf did a wine tasting class. MIL did a bunch of dancing classes, and then one night the ppl in the dancing class did a dance competition and we went to check it out. They also have a theater inside the ship where they have shows every night. I think dancing, singing and all that, and also broadway type shows. There were definitely always things going on. Dh and i didnt do any of those hahaha but i know everytime we saw someone from our group they said they did some type of activity and at night after dinner everybody would go off to a show, watch a movie, do one of the many classes they offer, but dh and i would go to the casino all the time.

Like i said, it was alot of young ppl about our age. I know ive heard some ships can be a big older crowd so i definitely see your concern, but you dont have to worry with this ship.

Re: Help me pick a HM Cruise!

We sailed on that itinerary with Royal Caribbean and it was great! Also, the ship, Explorer of the Seas, has a lot to do and is really fun. And the ports it sails to have really nice beaches. We are going on our HM with Royal and sailing out of Barcelona through Italy. Definitely go with RC.

Re: Help me pick a HM Cruise!

My parents went on both of those exact cruises... (they've been on nearly 40 cruises) and mom said definitely Royal Caribbean. DH and i did a cruise to the western caribbean as part of our honeymoon (Royal Caribbean) and i cant think of one thing to complain about! By far the best week! The cruise was phenomenal!! Definitely recommend Royal Caribbean!

I've done that exact Royal cruise and I think Royal is so much better than Princess personally

Re: Help me pick a HM Cruise!

My parents did both of these cruises and they personally liked the Royal Caribbean ship better because they said there was much more things to do there. They loved Princess also though. But Royal Caribbean just a tad bit more. ( I think they were so partial to it because it has an ice skating rink and my sister loves ice skating!)
