Help me pick a hotel for wedding night in Manhattan

Are there any reasonably priced nice hotels in Manhattan?

I was originally going to book the Four Seasons for before and after the wedding so my bridal party could get ready there but it's like $1000 a night!

Can you recommend other more reasonable priced hotels?

I'd like to spend $500 MAX per night.

I live in NY so I've never stayed at a NY hotel. These prices are just insane!

I have stayed at the howard johnson, pennsylvania plaza and marriot marquee. The marriot marquee in times square was just awesome. They didnt give us any problems, the rooms were big and i requested a nice view of the city and they gave it to us. I payed 420$ a night but this was a year ago. I rented the room for my FH for his birthday and had a bunch of people in the room. They didnt give us any problems when 4 of my friends decided they wanted to crash, they didnt even ask! Its clean and conveniently located. Pennsylvania plaza ( across from penn station) Ive stayed there 3 times...very very cheap, like 150 or less for the night, some of the rooms are very clean others are not as good. But its cheap and right across from the trains. Howard johnson I wouldnt recommend at all!! Good luck.

How is the W?? I know nothing of their pricing but I heard it is beautiful. Hotel Giraffe? My friend just had her guests stay there for her wedding, again, don't know about pricing. HTH.

Millenium Broadway is pretty inexpensive and one side of the hotel is very mod. I love it there.

I LOVE the Ritz-Carlton at Battery Park--it's out of the way from the bustle of midtown and it's right on the water (harbor view overlooks the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano Bridge.) For less than 500 a night, you can book the club level (which includes high end wines and Champagne all day AND five AWESOME food presentations a day in the Club Lounge.) My mom and I go for mini-getaways there--it is FABULOUS!!! Check out ritzcarlton.com

I've stayed at the Millennium, Crowne Plaza, Hilton, and Westin....and I would def go with the WESTIN all the way. It is brand new and very chic. Check it out online. You might be able to go a good deal if you go to www.starwood.com, then click promotions, then 35% off cities worldwide.
Let me know!!

The W is nice. I stayed at the one on Lex (with Bliss spa inside). The decor is great, and the bar and restaurant are nice. All the shower products are from Bliss which was fun. The only downside is that the rooms are very small.

You can def get a room in NYC for $500 or less. Don't buy into all that Four Season's/Ritz craziness.

The W Union Square (ok I'm biased bc that is where fh proposed) Tell them that it's a special occasion and they will upgrade you
The Alex
The Soho Grand
The Elgonquin (nice sized rooms)

All of these hotels have websites.

you might also want to check out the Hudson- which I like or even the Dream Hotel- both have a few types of rooms for different prices

I have stayed at the Marriott Marquee and it is very nice!! Tell them you want a window with a view of Times Square. What a view!!!
What about the Mandarien Oriental (I think I screwed that up). I heard that hotel is amazing!!! I think it might be more then $500 though.

I'd suggest The Millenium Hilton near Fulton Street and the world trade center site. Beautiful, new and not expensive at all ($240 a night or so), The Giraffe Hotel (about $250 a night) near Union Square is lovely (thats where most of my out of town guests are staying) and there is a really nice bar in the hotel if you feel like partying after the wedding

ETA: these prices are for normal standard rooms..not sure how much suites would cost, but it's worth a look

Re: Help me pick a hotel for wedding night in Manhattan

When I was interviewing for jobs here, law firms put me up at quite a few hotels. The only fancy hotel I stayed at is the Pierre (the Four Seasons), but I've stayed at the Fitzpatrick at Grand Central, the Benjamin, and the Kimberly, and they were all pretty nice (and I'm sure less expensive than the Four Seasons). The Fitzpatrick and the Benjamin are fancier than the Kimberly (the rooms are nicer), but the Kimberly had really large rooms and suites - which may be better for getting ready. I'm not sure what your budget is but my guess would be that these are less expensive than the W and some of the other hotels recommended, so if you can't swing those, check these out.

ETA to add:
I've also stayed at the Howard Johnson at Penn Station - once when my friends and I came down from upstate. I would NOT recommend it for any occasion, much less your wedding night!!! It was February and we had almost no heat, and neither did others - and when we were leaving, some folks were complaining about rats in their room. I will never stay there again, but it was cheap and we were in school so that's what we wanted.

I noticed someone recommended the Plaza - I think it's closed for construction.

A good friend of mine stayed at the Time in Times Square for an interview - I got to see her room - it was quite nice, but very very modern. I think there might be a big club there too.

I didn't realize Ritz Carlton was so reasonably priced. I checked the site and it would be $400 on our wedding night.

We stayed @ the W too,DH did not tell the front desk it's was our wedding night so when we got there they were like : oh nope you guys gonna get a suite so they upgrade us to a beautiful suite with no extra chargeand service was excellent.

PS: we paid around $ 450 .
