HELP ME! to cancel or not to cancel my RH.... HELP!
My FH and I booked CLM back in April. I fell in love with the palm trees and the food. Now, a few months later, I think I may have jumped into it. I went back to CLM today to see the RH and I just feel iffy about the upstairs room I booked with and having a bride and her CH outside during my wedding. The palm trees are absolutely AMAZING, but I just don't know how I feel about the room and the two weddings.
I NEED HELP LADIES! If I cancel CLM it will cost me $600.00, which face it, every penny counts.
I was thinking to check out FH or Riviera of Massapequa.
I just don't know. I am on a tight budget and cannot go over $100.00 a person including taxes and gratuity.
I am so confused my brain hurts!

Fox Hollow will also have more than one wedding going on at the same time. I really like CLM, but if you decide to cancel you should not lose $600. CLM is in Suffolk County (I think?) and there is a law on the books in Suffolk that states that if you cancel a catering hall contract more than 6 months in advance, you get everything back minus $100. If they refuse to give it back you can sue them in small claims court. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck with whatever you decide!

To be honest that is the reason I didn't book CLM. It is an absolutely beautiful place but I wasn't thrilled with the upstairs room. If the main room was available it would have been much higher up on my list. I would look into what it would cost you before you cancel. It is a lot of money to lose.

(1)When the consumer mails to the caterer notice of his or her intent to cancel; or
(2)When the caterer has actual notice of the consumer's intent to cancel.
B.With regard to cancellation fees:
(1)If a consumer cancels a catering contract and the caterer is able to rebook the date, the caterer's cancellation fee may not exceed 5% of the total contract price or $100, whichever is less, plus actual expenses reasonably incurred.
(2)If a consumer cancels a catering contract and the caterer is unable to rebook the date, the caterer's cancellation fee may not exceed the difference between the total contract price and the cost of performance, plus actual expenses reasonably incurred. The caterer must be able to show diligent efforts to rebook and most fairly calculate the cost of performance.
(3)It will be presumed that a caterer who receives notice of cancellation six months or more before the scheduled date of the function will be able to rebook.
§ 237-4. Prompt refunds.
As soon as reasonably practicable after cancellation and in no event later than 30 days after rebooking, the caterer must return to the consumer any sum received which exceeds the caterer's permissible cancellation fee.
§ 237-5. Contract forms.
Contract forms used by a caterer must conspicuously disclose the caterer's cancellation fee. This does not apply to contract forms ordered to be printed or set in type before the effective date of this chapter, but such forms may not be used for more than six months after this chapter takes effect.
§ 237-6. Delegation of performance to another caterer.
A caterer may not delegate performance of any contract to another caterer without the consumer's consent. This consent may be obtained only after the caterer advised the consumer of its inability to perform under the contract.
§ 237-7. Penalties for offenses.
The Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs of Suffolk County or his designated representative shall have the power to impose upon any caterer who shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter and/or any regulations duly promulgated with respect thereto a civil penalty of not less than $50 nor more than $500 for each such violation.

Thank you! I love spitting out law. Makes me feel like I didn't just waste 3 yrs of my life.
I must say shopping for a RH is the worst. I feel like eloping at this point. I just want someplace quiet, intimate, fun and affordable!!! I don't need glamour! Just good food good music and good times!

I will agree with you that shopping for RH's suck! I am sorry that you are in such a predicament! If you aren't 100% about the upstairs, then I say talk to them and see if they will give you the deposit back. like someone else said, that law in Suffolk should get you everythign back except your $100. I am getting married at CLM, but on the main floor, I honestly haven't even seen the upustairs, so I coudn't tell you what to do about it. Can you try to get the downstairs room? or it's booked already? (you may have already said that but I forgot) Maybe try captain Bill's if you are trying to stay in suffolk. the bayview house is nice there. and depending on the day/time/month of the wedding you should be able to stay within the 100 budget
Good luck! and don't worry - it will get easier! the RH was the worst part for us so far!

I felt the same way when I first started looking at catering halls. I took a year off and finally jumped back into things. I feel like right when you get engaged it is too much pressure of everyone asking you the date..I let the excitement die down...
However, I feel as if you are going to be totally unhappy then cancel and get your refund and start looking around for other RH. If you keep organized and don't over stress yourself. You will find what you are looking for.
Create a list of appointments with RH and only limit yourself to 3-4 a weekend. Best of Luck!

thanks ladies.
I am actually from Queens. but RH in the city are just ridiculous in prices and not really in the best locations. So I am open to Nassau County most definitely.

I really liked CLM. That was the cheapest place I found. I wasn't crazy about the 2 weddings at a time, AND they weren't sure if they would have the palm trees there by my date. So I decided not to go with them. PLace is gorgeous, food is great & if you're watching your pennies then this is the place to be!
Good Luck

I would say look around at a couple more places. If you fall in love with something else, then see about cancelling CLM. If you don't and you realize that you made the right choice from the beginning, then you won't have to worry about it! I just wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket.
And I love the riviera, thats where I am getting married, so let me know if you have any questions!

I just went to a job interview across from Villa Russo, looks very unique. I will check it out. And I always thought Verdi's would be super expensive thats why I didn't consider them.

Before you cancel, I'd suggest you look around at other options. If you cancel w/o finding another place, you may be disappointed and find that no place is perfect for you. If you find a place you like better, I'd go for it. My attitude lately is 'In the grand scheme of a wedding, what's another..' Yes $600 is a lot, but if you're not happy w/ CLM, cancel it.

Re: HELP ME! to cancel or not to cancel my RH.... HELP!
I got married at CLM last month and had no clue there was a wedding going on upstairs. NONE at all. Didnt see the bride/groom once or any of the guests. Would never have thought there were two weddings.
So if that is your only worry, DONT STRESS it and stick with CLM.
HOWEVER, if you dont like the room, maybe you should cancel it. I know for me, I fell in lvoe with the downstairs room. I wasnt that in love with the upstairs. I compromised and had a Sunday wedding just so I could have the downstairs room. We couldnt fit in the upstairs anyway 200+ people.
