Help me wiht this..going to an OOT wedding

Fh's cousin is getting married on Sept 4 in MD. I guess it';ll be about a 4 hour drive. Should I book to stay 2 night, so you think? the 3rd and the 4th? or the 4th and the 5th? or just stay the night of?

Also, do I have to book through their blocks? If I don't. is there any way to nbook and then connect it with them so they know we're staying there ?

We probbaly have to book ASAP since it's a holiday weekend.

ETA: I just foiund out it's within 10 miles of a alot of major historical sites and very close to the zoo! I think we'll definitely stay two night!

Since you edited your post to say you are going to stay two nights, if you book through the block of rooms, you might get a discount. Or you might be able to find a cheaper hotel around the area and just tell them you are staying there.

I just found a 4 star on otwire for $87 a night. On the website the hotel they have blocked (the hyatt) is over $150 a night!

Calorama is an ok area in DC. (Where the Zoo is). If you can, I would try for hotels in Bethesda MD they will be less expensive. Also try the Marriott on Connecticut in DC.
There is also a hotel in Georgetown that charges you by the temperature it is on Wisconsin Ave.

I live in MD! Where is the wedding? Probably you should stay in MD and then just take the metro into DC if you want to see some sights. DC can be totally sketchy on one block, and nice the next. So its hard to tell whether an area is really nice or not. Near all the tourism it is perfectly fine, though. But I remember my FILs stayed in DC for my FFIL's medical conference, and when we drove with them to their hotel we saw that a few blocks away the area was really run down even though the block they were on was really nice.

I'm not sure where the wedding is...maybe a temple?

But the hotel they blocked is the hyatt regency bethesda. It's really expensive and I don't really want to stay there unless 1) the wedding is there 2) there will be a lot of pre/post wedding events there. I kind of think they have a lot of nerve only blocking rooms at such an expensive place.
