Help me win my Budget Fight -- What's your budget?

Original post by deb3903

I'm arguing my case to my folks and future IL that a wedding on Long Island (to be good) has to be more expensive than many other places. My sister had her wedding in rural North Carolina and was able to do it CHEAP. Now my folks don't understand why mine will cost more.

Let me know your expected TOTAL budget, so I have more ammunition to have the perfect wedding for me. (I don't need the most expensive wedding, just a very nice, elegant one that I can be proud of!!!)

I don't know how you guys are getting in your wedding for such a good price!!!! I really didn't want to have an expensive wedding, but mine is turning out to be 50K Plus!!!! I don't know how the price is controlled.. Granted I spent 4K on a dress.. but still, EVERYTHING is SO expensive.. My photo and video alone is 10K!

I hate this! I wish one of you planned my wedding!

we were figuring 10K. not including rings which we bought before we set a date(got them when the jewelery place was having a sale), or honeymoon (my mother is letting us use her time share, we just have to pay the inclusive fee).

It can be done, you just have to investigate and prioritize. We are having 70 people on a Sat night in July. I know it would be less in the winter, but i wanted an outdoor ceremony at the time of the yr when you get the most sunlight..

We guaranteed 185 (inviting about 230). I pray that no one over 185 comes. We are hoping not to exceed 32,000.

Thanks Everybody:

I definitely think sharing the results of my informal poll will add weight to my case. I'll keep checking back for replies and new poll numbers, so if you haven't taken the poll, it isn't too late!

We were thinking 25,000 but thats approximately what we're spending at the reception hall alone. Not including all the other stuff that we have to get.

Same for us

Ours started out at 25,000 then jumped to 30,000 but now I think it will be more like 35,000. I never thought that getting married would be so expensive.

We are spending about 18K. I had originally only wanted to spend about 13K. Everything adds up and believe me, we have cut back in a lot of areas.
