Help me win my Budget Fight -- What's your budget?
I'm arguing my case to my folks and future IL that a wedding on Long Island (to be good) has to be more expensive than many other places. My sister had her wedding in rural North Carolina and was able to do it CHEAP. Now my folks don't understand why mine will cost more.
Let me know your expected TOTAL budget, so I have more ammunition to have the perfect wedding for me. (I don't need the most expensive wedding, just a very nice, elegant one that I can be proud of!!!)

We were thinking 25,000 but thats approximately what we're spending at the reception hall alone. Not including all the other stuff that we have to get.

part of the budget has to do with how many people you are inviting.

well the prices will also depend on the time of year/month that you pick for your wedding

You can have a beautiful wedding for 10K or 50K or 100K. It's abotu prioritizing. Figure out what you want to spend the most money on and go from there.

We're hoping for between 20 and 25k... but that does not include the dress - or pre-wedding pampering, or the honeymoon. I go to school in Va and my friends think i'm crazy - as my one friend just got married for 15K (w/ dress/honeymoon and all). Long Island is a different world when it comes to weddings. I'm guessing for a nice wedding with approx 175 people, 20K is probably going to be your minimum - but i could be wrong.
Best of luck to you!

We are hoping to spend no more than 23,000 but I think we may go 2 or 3 thousand over that. LI weddings are insane!

Re: Help me win my Budget Fight -- What's your budget?
It's about 35K at this point with 125 people-but I am doing a Sat night in June.
Honestly, I really wanted a low-key beautiful outdoor wedding. I thought it could be done for 10K-after all, I was contemplating a Barbecue!
My mother had a heart attack (I am the first of three girls) and said it had to be a Sat night at a NICE HALL!! We compromised and got a (ridiculously expensive) vineyard wedding going.
I suppose I cannot complain, as my parents are paying for 90% of this-but I really liked the idea of something simple and gorgeous-sort of Midsummer Nights Dream, glowing lanterns outside and bursting fireworks romance of a wedding.
It all depends on what you want. Go ahead and tell them mine is looking to be a (reluctant) 40K by the time all is said and done! Yikes, that makes me feel guilty.

FH wanted the budget to be 25,000-but I was like the reception hall is costing us 20,000 by itself so how does that work. It is so true-go anywhere else and it is much cheaper than LI

We are up to about 25,000 and still have a lot more to go such as -favors,centerpieces, flowers (although i have no wedding party and am not doing flower centepices so it will be very inexpensive), rings, honeymoon, etc. It stinks to say but it will probably be over 30,000. UGHHHHHH!

I've heard that an average LI Wedding costs about 30k.
We are having 150-200 guests. We should be at about 25k including the honeymoon. We try to cut costs where we can. I got my gown at David's Bridal and we are staying at an all inclusive in Mexico as opposed to our original choice which was Sandals St Lucia.

We started at 10K, but after looking into everything, we're at 14K. Rings, RD and HM are not included in this. My dad's paying for RD & HM. Everything else we're paying for ourselves.

For about 175 people, I originally hoped to not exceed $20,000...but since booking major vendors and figuring out the details, I have increased the total budget to $25,000, which should cover us.

Re: Help me win my Budget Fight -- What's your budget?
when i first got engaged, i had planned on 10,000, now my budget is 15,000, not including the honeymoon. my parents and fh's parents are helping too so the final cost of the wedding will be around $20,000

Re: Help me win my Budget Fight -- What's your budget?
It is definitely a whole 'nother ballgame when planning a wedding on L.I. as opposed to almost anywhere else. It's a much bigger deal, with more food, more everything from what I've seen from in vs. out of state. It will absolutely cost more than a rural NC wedding if you have the exact same things at both. Good luck getting this across to your FH and family...
