Help my mind is not with it... recent death in family, do not know what to bring for X mas eve to SIL's family house........

As many of you knopw my MIL passed away ( suddenly) this past week. BIL's in laws invited us for X mas eve and X mas day. We are Jewish,so I am not used to celebrating X mas. What can I bring over for X mas eve? My mind i s not thinking, and I do not have time to go out and get a hostess gift. I was thinking maybe I can cook something... but what??? ( I was going to make potato pancakes to bring to my sisters for Chanukah on Sunday, but I do not want to offend them if I bring potato panckes...) Any ideas?

Any type of dessert is always a good thing or a bottle of wine.

You can bring the potato lakas if you want to that will not hurt them. Honestly whatever you bring they would appreciate because it is always hard to make sure you have enough food for everyone.

I agree. I don't think that is offensive at all. you could always make brownies and bring a nice bottle of wine too.

Honestly I don't think the latkes are a bad idea. My future inlaws are Italian and they have a really big Italian Xmas Eve, they specifically asked me to bring a Polish dish, since are becoming one family and blending of traditions is sweet. I was honored that they asked me to do that.
