Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

I don't know if it's age, dairy, caffeine, exercise (being sweaty a lot), hormones or stress...but my skin started looking like crap in January and I can't seem to get it to look good again.

I have this colony of red bumps on my chin that won't go away - it's not zits, exactly...more like a teensy rash. I've changed soaps three times, I exfoliate all the time...and in addition my skin looks dull and gray too!

My mom told me that her skin started to change at age 30...and I've come to find out that this is not uncommon in women as they turn 30.

Should I go to a dermatologist> Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

suzanne you just described my skin perfectly!

I would go to a dermatologist...I'm always searching for a good one myself...but definitely listen to T and drink lots of water...it helps a lot!

I agree - drink lots of water.

And maybe try giving your skin a break. One of my friends, who has the most beautiful complexion, has been using baby bath soap to wash her face. It's very mild but gets the job done.

I use all clinique products and love them
the soap, make up remover, exfoliator, moisturizer
try it, it is hypo-allergic too

Rachel - Are you getting enough sleep? Try getting a facial. I find that it always helps get my skin back on track. And I second T's advice to drink lots of water.

I curious about that chemical thing too....

My skin has been from hell also since January. The really cold winter has a lot to do with our problems I'm sure. Your skin dried out....and this causes a multitude of problems. I started using the Clinique stuff also, with the exception of the moisturizer, which SUCKED for my skin. The soap and toner is great though.

YOu can get the stuff Jen at the Beauty Supply store that is on the same block as LaQ the pool hall.. Do u know where it is?

Re: Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

I drink about 100ozs of water a day! So I don't think that's it.

I have blackheads on my chin and nose too....so I'm thinking I should go get a facial, see if that helps - and then if the crap doesn't clear, go to the derm...

I was using Cetaphil for the longest time and it never felt like my face got clean! Was making me nuts! I went back to the mild Clinique stuff and it hasn't really helped. I am using Cetaphil moisturizer now but it bothers me that it doesn't have any SPF. Ack!

T..what kind of products are they? The stuff they use in salons for facials or actual chemical peels?

Is this supply store in Howard Beach?

Re: Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

have you ever done a home chemical peel T? because it sounds as inviting as home waxing kits... I'm afraid I'd burn my face!

Re: Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

Its an actual chemical Peel..

I do it for Ron.. I don't do it for me...

I don't like the smell .. My NOSE is very sensative to smell..

I also don't wash my skin (face) with soap.

That is why I usually have good skin and never a problem.

Re: Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

My Derm said never to use to much stuff on your face, and not always is a facial good for you, and he also said that MASKS are NOT good.. I use Nuetregena acne wash, when i have break outs and dove soap, for YEARS.. i also use Clinique mostrizer.. Im hoping to find out the problem on the 5th.. But also the sun is coming and im hoping that a tan will help too!!

I get alot of blackheads also, but not for long cause i have that tool.. so i get them right out.. its just refining the poors that i have a problem with.,

I am a big believer in Noxzema, also using soap will often dry the skin,Vitamin E lotion is also good

I think it's an epidemic!!!!!!!!! I HAVE THE SAME ISSUES!!!!!!!

I went to my derm and he gave me an antibiotic, which has helped...and I have found this FANTASTIC homeopathic line of skin care that is also helping a GREAT DEAL. It's called Jurlique and there is a store on Madison and 50th I think???

Re: Help! My Skin Looks like hell...

Rach-I had clear skin all my life until I hit about 25 and now I can't get rid of it. I think I had the same coverstick from hs thru college and never needed face powder!!! I feel like I hit puberty now and I am 30!!! I absolutely hate it. I am very insecure over it.

I have been thru a few derm's and the one I have now I really like. He explained that now matter how good you clean you skin and for the most part no matter what products you use - hormones can play a huge role in you skin. Something like every 5 or 6 years, your body goes thru changes and your hormonal level changes thus causing the breakouts. Since it started at about 25 - he said hopefully when I hit my 30's it should start changing on it own..so Dec was the big 30 and I am anxiously awaiting the change. In the meantime, I take pills and also some topicals and it makes a huge difference but still not 100%. He also suggested playing around with different birth control pills (which I am not currently on because I had such a bad reaction to the ones I tried) or getting pregnant (joking - no yet - sorry). Both he said change your hormonal levels.

Does your insurance cover a derm? Like, my derm said, mine is not the most severe he has seen but if it makes you feel insecure or bad then you should seek assistance. I have to go see him tom. he is going to be mad at me because I promised I would go see a gyno about BC ... haven't done that!
