Help! My son has croup!!!

Last week I posted my son Nicholas (14 months) had a bad cold,fever...Well Saturday at 3:00 AM we were in the emergency room. I was listening to him sleep and his breathing sounded awful...I woke up my husband and we went. The Dr said we caught it very early, so early it was hard to diagnose at first until he finally coughed. Has anyone else's child ever had croup? He received a steroid shot and a Nebulizer treatment. My ped said to bring him in the bathroom with the steam running which we have been doing..I am also trying to keep him as happy as I can because when he cries, it sounds the worst....Any thing else you ladies think I can do...Please say a lot of prayers for my son..I am a mess

Croup is so common, it sounds worse than the condition truly is. Just time, meds and lots of liquids. The looser his chest stays the better.

My son had it, and it was the scariest night of my life (I overreacted ) It is very common, but scary just the same. It is not serious, and the nebulizer treatments will definately help. The steam shower only made my son feel like he couldn't breathe even more.

Hang in there...he'll be better before you know it

I'm so sorry to hear that! We mother's will never stop worrying about our children and it's perfectly natural to be overconcerned about something like this! I just want you to know that I'm thinking of you and your son and I hope he feels better real soon!

I believe one of our friend's children had it. Its pretty common. Hope your son is feeling better soon. I think its harder on the parents when our little ones are not well.

I'm not sure if it's similar, but my son had RSV back around Thanksgiving, and his symptoms were the same, and we got to spend the night in the hospital. We also had another time when we had to go to the Emergency room too because of his breathing. We also have a nebulizer for when he gets bad colds. I hope he feels better! to you!

I am so sorry that yyour son does not feel good I know my cousins son has had croup a few times. So its a common thing

I feel bad for them when they are sick cuz you don't know whats bothering them and how to help them

I am not a mom, in fact I dont know how I got on this board LOL but my nephew who is 8 has had croup his whole life. Sometimes the episodes are worse than others. Last week he had a bad attack and my sister didnt have the steriod for him and he couldnt breathe (I cant imagine) so she ran hot water in the shower and he breathed it in and was ok. My son had croup about the same age and about the same time of season... Hope your lil one feels better soon... You may want to ask your Dr. about putting him on a as needed allergy medicine (Alex was put on Zyrtec) to help prevent future cases.... Good Luck!
