HELP! Need a roman catholic priest for a roman catholic ceremony outside of a RC Church.

Hi everyone,

me and my fiance are getting married next october and we are both catholic. i'm in need of a roman catholic priest who would be willing to marry us outside of the church. I know they aren't supposed to do perform ceremonies outside of the church. can anyone help????

I really dont think any priest that is still part of a parish will do this. They do not recognize marriages outside of the church. The only acceptance is interfaith marriages. sorry

Yea I heard the same thing...I know people that wanted to get married outside of the church had a blessing the night before and then had the ceremony at the RH.

I spoke to the deacon/priest in my parish. It is against the Dioceses rules
In order to get married by a Catholic Priest /Deacon

Catholic/Catholic must be married in a Catholic Church
Catholic/Christian must be married in some church
Catholic/Non Christian must get married in a structure (no gazebo or outside) I had to send my deacon pics of the outside of Chateau Briand to get it approved!

You can find some other Christian minister to but a Catholic priest won't do it!

what she said also the only priests you probably could get to do it outside the church are retired priests and the church might not recoginze the marriage if outside the church.

We are getting married at the reception hall then doing a small ceremony at a church at a later date so that our marriage will be recognized by the church.

He is a Catholic priest with Good Shepard Catholic Church in Hampton Bays. We are using him and the marriage is recongnized and sacramental. We had to do precana and counseling.
He books quickly so I would contact him asap.

I dont think Father Bob Allman belongs to the Catholich CHurch recognize byt the VATICAN, which i believe is what she is looking for.

When i decided to not marry at the church i did research on these 'priests'. I will be chosing one of them, but the marriage while lehgal and sacramental is not recognized by the vatican. Alot of these priest left the Roman Catholic Church to join similar churches. They will still give you a catholic ceremony which was imporant to me, at the end of the day whether the Vatican recognizes my marriage became not a major issue, becuase i still think God will bless my marriage no matter what as long as i am incorporating relegion into my ceremony

thank you all for replying. this kind of stinks that it wont get recognized by the church. what is the small church ceremony that you were talkinga bout?? how does that owrk? and if you do that small church ceremony at a later date do you still have to do the pre cana stuff or no??

Please not Father Bob is NOT part of a roman catholic church. It will be recognized in the eyes of NYS, but not by the ROMAN CATHOLIC church.

No priest will marry you outside the church unless they are a former priest. I'm using Father David Grainson, who left the priesthood and had a family. He's up front about who is he is and I love his views on marriage. He is performing a religious ceremony (but it is civil)

If you don't want a priest and want it recognized by the RC Church, it's a hard process and must be for unordinary/unusual circumstances and you need to request permission from the diocese/bishop I believe.

eta - Glitterbox, I totally agree with you 100%. I did ALOT of research and loved Father David's honesty.

I was wondering this too... because I thought you had to be married IN THE CHURCH and couldn't already be married for it to be recognized by the church... cause I know a lot of people consider getting married civilly first for insurance purposes and stuff but it poses problems with the RC Church because you already have a marriage certificate... I dunno about this...

hmmmm that i dont know. I have had alot of aunts renew their vows and do the CHURCH the 2nd time (since they didnt the first) but it wasnt in this country. so i dont know.

One of my cousins and one of my friends did the civil marriage first followed by a church wedding a couple of years later.

The church doesn't really like it and some churches won't perform the ceremony. You still have to go through pre-cana. You will need to get another marriage license.

It really depends on the parish and the pastor on whether or not they will do this for you.

Father David Grainson. He was a Roman Catholic priest a few years back, but left the priest hood to pursue a family. He is marrying us. We will be doing everything that a Catholic ceremony does except for communion obviously. I am very excited. FM if you want his contact info.
