I dont know what EGL certified is but mine is GIA certified and on the paperwork if your diamond has flaws it lists them. Why dont you check it and see if it says what they are and if they're bad for the diamond?

It could be an imperfection, maybe a cloud or something. I would bring it to a jeweler and have it check out. I recommend Gennaro jewelers in Bellmore. They do everything in front of you and your ring will never be out of your sight.

Okay, I know a lot about diamonds b/c my Pops used to do jewelry. On your certificate, does it show you a drawing of a diamond with all the flaws on it? Also, SI is not bad. It's average and usually the clarity within this category is not visible to the naked eye. If this is EGL certified the paperwork should show the flaws somewhere. Does it say SI1 or SI2? Or does it just say SI?

I know with GIA certification it shows a picture but I think it also states any imperfections in the diamond, like cloud, feather...etc.

I think that you should get it insured ASAP, and then take it to another jeweler for an eval. That would be terrible if it cracked and you lost it without any insurance!
I remember going through all of the diamond details with FH before he proposed, but for the most part, it was all in his hands. I remember something about some of the diamond certifications being sketchy.

Also, if you have a magnifying glass somewhere in your house, take the ring and look at it close. A loop would be better but most people don't have that handy. You would be able to see a crack with a magnifying glass. Just keep turning the ring while looking at it and see if you find anything. If you can't do this on your own, bring it to a trusted person.

Yea, I have a GIA and it maps out every single flaw and describes the diamond entirely. I know EGL's are legit but I have never seen one. I just called my Dad and he said it should have a description of the diamond with a picture of flaws.

Re: Help!!! Need advice!!!
on my certification it has a pic of my diamond and where the flaws are they are highlighted with a red dot HTH
also u could just go to a jewler w/o FH knowing and ask them if they can tell u what that is??

Also, Dad just said to find out if your certificate is from NY or CA. Those two states produce the most reliable EGL certificates.

Okay, well SI stands for small inclusions. And then the number 2 means the number of inclusions- I think. But, we are getting somewhere. Those markings are the inclusions. Do you see lines and circles? If any lines, look at your ring. And look at the picture. If the line is the one that makes it look like a crack, that's most likely the inclusion.

That's good then. You have a reliable certificate. I do suggest you get the ring insured. It's really important.
