Sooooo, My FH has a teenage half sister who is one of my bridesmaids. we had invited her mother (we are friends) with a guest and then his sister.
she had rsvp'd that she was bringing a guest and we assumed it was a date, but we just found out that it is his sister who is bringing a gal pal - isn't that a bit weird and rude? we have been stressing over how to keep the guest list small, and I have had fights with my mom over her not inviting too many people, and now we have some teenage kid that we've never met coming to the wedding when we've had to cut our own the guest list...
should I say something or let it be cause the mom was invited with a plus one.....thoughts?
thanks!

ugh that's a tough one.
i think b/c it's your FH's half sister, you have to let this one slide (or at least that's what i would do). but if it was anyone else, i wouldn't be too happy about it.
sorry tou have to deal with this - these situations are always sticky

thanks - it just seems so weird to me to have a random teenager there...i'm still debating whether to say something to her mom, like only adults were invited with a plus one....would that be horrible?
man, it's these little things that are so stressful!

What does your FH think? If you, as a couple, decide to address the guest issue, your FH should be the one to address it, not you.
I think it's perfectly fine to indicate that the teenager wasnt invited with a guest. I just think it's best if FH does it since it's his family.

At least they RSVPed for her! My FH's cousin brought a friend to our engagement party without even telling us. I was livid but I just 'forgot' to count her in the end because I refused to pay for a person I didn't know or even know was coming! So Rude!

Re: help - need advice
well, we just found out last night at easter dinner, and we haven't had to much time to talk about it, but I will def talk to him first...i was just a bit shocked by it and was wondering if this was in fact weird, or if it's just weird to me...i mean, the whole guest list is about 55 people (we wanted small and intimate, and we don't have a ton of money) so extra people that we don't know really do stand out to me...
thanks for your input!

When my sister got married I was 16 and given a guest. I brought a friend (guy). Fh's sister is 17 and we are giving her a guest. We already know that she is bringing her female friend. I feel your pain with the guest list because we are in the same boat. (OUr 125 turned into 187) However, since it's his sister I'm just letting it go. Not worth the battle.

While I wholeheartedly understand your point, the reality is if you invite someone with a guest they have the right to deem who they want to bring as that guest. We invited some people with a guest who opted not to bring one. Then someone decided to bring their sister which is just odd. It is what it is! Are we thrilled? No, but again that is the risk you take in inviting someone with an open-ended guest. I wouldnt say anything other than gently encourage that they will know other people yadda yadda!
