I have not decided on Reception Venue yet, I am so confused. I don't know where to begin. Do I set a budget first for each thing that I want. Example- Venue a certain ammount, Flowers a certain amount, so on and so on. Should I just set a Budget overall for everything and work from that.
Please give me some idea, as to what would work best.

Okay first set your budget and find a RH first bf them start with the vendors but go one by one it's okay u have a lot of time and don't get stressed out everything will come into place

I would set an overall budget for your entire wedding. Know how much you have to spend. Get a rough guest list together, so you know how much your RH will be. The RH will be the most expensive check you have. Then you can go from there...florist, DJ, photographer, etc.
Good luck and have fun planning!!

I also think it is important definitely to pinpoint an overall budget, but then within that budget, you should delineate a budget for each element of the wedding (eg. reception hall, flowers, photography, dj...). If you don't do that, it is VERY easy to forget something and wind up blowing your overall budget because, say, you forgot to account for the ceremony site fee and your officiant fee... oh and the rings! now you could be thousands of dollars over budget. lol I have definitely found myself in this sort of situation.

Re: HELP NEED ADVICE
Thank you for this advice. We have considered just putting off the wedding until all of the money is saved up. I am not sure if this is a good idea or not.
I think we should we proceed with planning since its not going to be until August or September 2013 and if we start researching venues now and getting price quotes, we will be prepared.

I agree with the girls, set a budget first. Make a list and check out Venues. That's the only way to know how far you can stretch the budget to fit your guests. My FH was very big on saving and then booking. Only issue is we were engaged 7 months and hadn't saved because we didn't have a set date to save for. Now that we do we are actually saving for it. So my opinion is to plan and save all at once

I felt the same way. how do I set a budget not knowing prices of things. The Venue def cost the most. You need to have an idea of how many ppl you would like to have before you can book a place. The time of year plays a big part too.
I used the budget guide on theknot.com and it helped me.
I update it daily when i find new prices.
I hope to stick to mine.
Good Luck.
