HELP Need to know if this is the norm

My fiance called his parish St Bridgids in Westbury to make an appt. with the clergy to meet them and find out avail dates, they told him he has to come and fill out an application with all info and they will contact us by mail if the date we pick is available. Is this the way its done? Im looking to get married in march or april I dont have time for the mail!!! I think tomorrow I am going to go there and find out whats the deal if thats the case then I will try my parish St. Frances in Wantagh. I dont get it what am I suppose to go to a hall first? I thought it was the other way around??????????

We did not have to fill out an 'application'. We booked the hall first, then the church. We didn't tell the church this though.

At our parish, we called and made an appointment that day. We met the the priest we wanted to marry us and booked the day and time.

My church told me over the phone what days were available.

we made an appointment and went down. I think that all parishes probably have their own system but if you are unsure go with the other parish

I was told on the phone when i called. Being told by mail is kinda weird, never heard that before

Since he's a member I am sure it will work out. I would wait till you have the church.

I called St. Brigid's when I got engaged- I have to give the woman a lot of info over the phone, and the NEXT day I got a letter saying that since the parish was so huge they could not marry non-members. I don't know why they didn't just tell me that on the phone but I think it's good that they told you to come in, though you're right, I don't know why they don't just tell you right there. When FH and I found a church the priest just pulled out a book and we left with a date. Maybe look into St. Francis now just in case...
