I have two weeks to my wedding. I got a call yesterday from my Aunt becuase I did not invite my second cousin to the wedding (her grandson) and I invited other second cousins. This is the deal. I don't like the kid, he is mean. I have never spoke more than two words to him, never kissed him hello or goodbye. His parents are rude and obnoxious (obviously where he gets it from) and are lucky they were invited. My reasoning is I am paying for the wedding myself so I should have who I want there. I know I should have done all or none re: the children but there are some children in my family that I love very dearly and my day wouldn't have been complete without them. So I decided only to invite children I am close too, and this kid who was not invited was not the only one I didn't invite. Quite a few children were left out. My Mom has 10 kids in her family, so you can just imagine all the cousins and second cousins I have. Please tell me if I am wrong. I feel like a big fat heal and with two weeks to go, I don't need this stress! Thanks for letting me VENT!

You did NOTHING wrong!
This is about sharing your day with people that you love, it is not about 'poltical correctness', although most people think it is.
My recommendation- screen your calls for the next few weeks. Tell your Aunt that you are sorry if she is upset but the wedding is very expensive and you cannot invite every child and the guest list cannot be changed now. Besides you are not close to XX.
Don't aplogize for who you picked. You did not do anything unfair!

You did nothing wrong. My wedding is in September so my invitations haven't gone out yet but I am going to pick and choose cousins also, so I'm sure I'm going to hear it from some of my Aunts and Uncles - but I feel the same way you do. It's my wedding, it's very expensive, my FH and I are paying for it, I only want who I want and that's it. I refuse to invite a cousin just because he's my cousin even though I would pass him by in the street! Don't stress - you're right. Stick to your guns!

I imagine I will have the same problem when the invites finally go out. You didn't do anything wrong. You have certain numbers to work with, whether they be budget or room capacity, and you need to explain that to family who do not understand. I am already casually getting the word out.

I don't think you did anything wrong. Bottom line is, it's your day and you're paying for it, so you invite whomever you want.
Don't let this upset you. I'm sure you have enough on your mind as it is.
