HELP PLEASE.. marriage license/certificate... stupid mailman..

so, the mailman delivered our mail to my inlaws... AGAIN.
We ended up leaving him a note saying we live HERE.
anyway... I got the copies the church mailed me... but I'm confused.
We got the marriage license, but its a copy and not stamped (raised seal) or anything... its just signed by my priest.

We also got a signed certificate from the church, with the raised seal (stamp).

um, aren't I supposed to get a signed license?
This whole process confuses me and everyone I ask has no clue.

so, can I go to SS and the DMV with what I was mailed from the church?

Thats not your marrige certificate- its the copy of the license you got when you went to town hall and gave to the church. they sent you a copy of the signed document. Also the other one is your church certificate. Neither is legal- you have to wait for the state one.

hmm... mine didn't look like that at all. it looked more like a birth certificate and had a raised seal and stuff. but it's from the clerk in manhattan, so not sure if that's why it's different. i'll try to upload a pic later.

No, you need the certificate from the state. The priest who married you should've mailed the license (your pic #1) to the state in the envelope you gave him with the license. Then the state is supposed to send you your official certificate.

yeah. Find out from your church if they mailed it into the state and this is just a copy for you.

I'm sorry, I just stress because I have until the 19th and I have to go on a monday, which would be either this coming monday or the following... or else I imagine I have to go back to city hall and get another one?

I remember you posting about the church and the church saying they would send you a copy of what they sent out. They sent out the church certificate for your files and a copy of the license for your files. I'm *assuming* they already sent it to the city clerk, but I'd double check and find out the date they sent it out.

ETA: When I say they sent 'it to the city clerk' I mean the signed license.

you wont have to go back and get another one. My 1st marriage to 'El Stupido' I got a letter from the state after the cut off date saying they never recieved my license back and they were assuming that I never got married. So I got in touch with the church who said they sent it out. It turned out it was buried on some state workers desk.
Its around- All you would have to do is prove that you were married that day- which you have a copy of the signed license.
Dont stress over it- it will come.
