Help please: writing a check for a wedding gift

I'm going to a wedding in a few hours and need to write a check to put in the card...

Do I make it out to the bride with her maiden name? Mr and Mrs New Name ?

I would do Mr. and Mrs....if anything, she'll be excited to see her new name in print!

I agree. Or to one or the other. What if she is like me and not taking his last name? It's safer to make it to cash

No - don't make it to Mr. And Mrs. I work for a bank. Make it out to Ms. Sandy Smith (maiden name) OR Mr. Joe Shmoe. That way, either one can cash or deposit it. Make sure you use the word or, and not and. If you make it out to cash and it gets lost, anyone else can cash it, so I wouldn't recommend that either.

I agree with Rachel! I would not want a check to Mr. and Mrs. because for the most part if she is taking his name, she won't be able to cash/deposit it until she does change her name.

thanks ladies!

I did the Ms. Smith OR Mr. Jones thing...and I spelled her first name wrong on the card...so stupid. oh well, i got it right on the check (cause i took out the invite to check his name before I wrote that out,)

Def make it to her name....meaning her MAIDEN name! OMG i went weeks not being able to deposit my checks! Since ppl wrote Mr and Mrs and his name...the bank said i cant put them in till i get my marriage cert! Took 4 weeks!!!!!

that's what I was thinking when I read suggestions to write it out to 'CASH'
