Help, por favor: 15 minute (?!!) demo lesson for 6th grade math....?
I dont know WHAT THE HELLLLLLLLLLLLL I can teach in 15 minutes...but does anyone have an idea? I just got a phone call to do a lesson TOMORROW.
Or maybe can a teacher out there explain to me what I am supposed to display (general skills) within such a short time?!

you can do converting between fractions decimals & percents in 15 min. Plus it's in the curriculum.
They look for interactivity, closure (summary) and how interesting you make the material. (I guess, it's how I got my job)
Good luck!

I was going to say fractions/decimals/percents, too. Fractions/decimals/percents using examples from a newspaper. Good luck! 15 minutes is QUICK! Try to get them doing something, even if it's just for 5 minutes. Let us know how it goes!

Thank you for your help!
Question though...how can I make it interesting and short....?
Decimals, percents, and fractions are pretty cut and dry....

ooh! What if I give the kids M&Ms? Have them divide them up, and then write each color as a fraction, percent, and decimal?
Mmmm candy/bribery

How about equations with 'cups & chips' they always love that.
You can intro Pythagorean by telling the story of Pythagorus and the Nile River.
You can explain that percent translates literally to 'per cent' (per 100) and teach them the 10% trick ~ calculate savings like 40% by moving the decimal and multiplying by 4. (That sounds confusing but I think you know what I mean)
Are you doing an entire mini-lesson, an opening, a closing.
Be prepared for a monkey wrench.

A good idea, however they can get you on the no candy/peanut allergy thing

You can also teach them probability by letting them play craps.

Ehhh - small price considering they didn't mention it beforehand and have given me less than 12 hours notice.

the overhead won't work, someone interrupts your lesson, the computer won't turn on. Be prepared for something to go wrong. They may do something 'accidentally on purpose' They want you to recover and do something else.

Solving one step equations using addition and subtraction? Its definitily easy enough for 15 min and you can come up with some creative ideas. Like using colored chips or candy to model and balance the equation.

where do you live? I can bring you some manipulatives. Also, if you can relate the topic to real-life it helps.

no real info either but maybe you can teach them the different measurement systems, like grams and pounds using crack cocaine and marijuana. Good luck Bon! You're going to rock it!

Oh, that might be better than when I was called scotch in college for like a month by this one girl because my initials are JB.
But maybe not, that one is pretty good.
I'll take either.
