(Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

Wont let me LOOK, they said they are not booking past 2003 because of possible changes in their managerial contract or something. Oh well, that takes one off my list.

Re: Port Jefferson Country Club

That seems kinda foolish. They are losing business. You will find another place!

Re: Port Jefferson Country Club

Yes, it was only one on my list.. no loss!

I am finding that.... Well, i am losing my oomph to look at places. I have a few on my list still to go see, but, for some reason I just feel like, well, I won't like them as much as Danford's (my favorite so far) so why bother looking?

However, I feel that I might miss out on something if I dont look. We have seen like 6-7 places, but.... I don't know :-( Should I keep looking? Should I just go with Danford's? None of the places left on my list make me get excited. They are just places I am going to see cause they were recommended by someone.

Help??

Re: Port Jefferson Country Club

This makes me sad... I was married there last year, and I don't want them to fall out of 'favor' in the wedding community. And, I was working with them and hoping that they would use my wedding photos for their promotional materials.

I wonder what they mean by changes in their managerial contract. Maybe they are just trying to figure out the terms to their new contract, and don't want to book too many affairs while things are up in the air. If you really like the place and have time to wait, I wouldn't give up on them...they do a wonderful job and it's a beautiful site!

Re: Port Jefferson Country Club

They didn't even want me to come look. It seemed that the place is 'changing management'. Basically, they weren't gonna do the work of booking a place for other people when they dont even know how the other people are gonna run it, (he mentioned price, service, etc could change)

Re: Port Jefferson Country Club

I'm getting married there 8/03. I believe the property & club belong to the village of Port Jefferson, and the catering company has a contract to run it for an amount of time. I haven't heard anything from the management there, but I read the same thing on the knot: that they were changing management. It seems to me they have to have this figured out pretty soon!

Re: Port Jefferson Country Club

I would keep looking--since you have time you might as well just to make sure that Danford's is 'the' place.

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

I would keep looking for a little while if you are not sure. When we were looking for a place, we were so excited and into it for a while, but we saw too many too quickly and got burnt out. I booked the hall that I liked best so far without going to see the rest on my list.

A month later I had doubts and went to go see a few more places. I fell in love a different place. I was lucky to get out of the first contract, but it was a hassle and I'm still not sure that I'll get my $500 deposit back.

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

I say go and look, if you can. At the least all it would do is confirm that Danford's is the place you really want. Also, then you can rest asured that there isn't some other place out there. If not, you may find a place you actually like more!

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

I also looked at Port Jefferson Country Club and I had to lie to them because I wanted to see it but they wouldn't tell me why I wasn't allowed to. When we started speaking to the guy who showed us around I slipped and told him my real date which is in 2004. That's when he started saying that there really is no point to look at it and that we shouldn't book there. I thought it was good that he was straightforward that he wasn't sure if they were going to be able to renew their lease with the town because of increases in prices, but I also felt it was a little unprofessional that he was practically telling us to not even consider them.

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

I went to look there last year (my wedding is Aug 2003) and although I have heard excellent things about them, there were certain things that were a little disappointing to me. The linens seemed flimsy and you could see the metal table legs... It was still my number one choice though, until I saw the Hamlet Windwatch in Hauppauge. When I spoke to the chef there i asked him if he knew why it seemed like PJCC was letting things go (the bathroom needed some repair, etc) and he explained that the same family has had the contract for catering there for quite some time, because it is a very political thing in the town of Port Jeff. He said that a number of caterers were trying to take over because it is such a beautiful location. If this is true, the current caterers are probably not happy about losing the contract, which would explain why they do not want to accept bookings. I would call the town and see if they have decided on a caterer and if so, contact them directly. Had they done this sooner, I would've definitely had my wedding there...

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

There are sooooo many place to look at on LI and so many of them are beautiful. You can look forever. If you saw a place that you love - book and dont look back. You dont want to loose the date of your choice. You dont want to go back to Danfords in a week or two and learn that you cant get the date you want. JMO

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

I agree with Fran. There are so many places to choose from. We limited our search to six places. We looked at them all in one weekend. I have looked at other places since with friends and i am still so happy with our choice.... If you fell in love with Danfords, you should book it!!!

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

Danford's was in our top 3 I would say. We love the room, the town, the Inn, etc.
Problem is, it is sketchy as to whether it will accomodate all my guests. Our list is still in the works, and we are not sure if it will be 120 or 160. Therefore, Danford's is probably not good, they can only comfortably accomadate 122, without using another room. Our next choice is Captain Bill's Bayview House. They have a 125 minimum, which will not be a problem, but can go up to like 200 or so comfortably. They are also on the water and we really liked the room there.

So, looks for now that capt bills is in the lead!!!

More feedback?? please?? you guys make my life so much easier!!!

Re: (Help)Port Jefferson Country Club

Meghan, do you have your heart set on a waterfront Port Jeff local? If not, I strongly suggest you check out the Hamlet Wind Watch. The view is spectacular, but no water. I looked at the PJCC and was a little disappointed. I loved the view and the gazebo, but it seemed a little unkept inside. Then I went the Hamlet and was blown away. Plus, the prices were lower
