HELP! Recently engaged

My fiance proposed over a month ago and we are thinking about an October wedding. I am more than overwhelmed by all the planning ahead of us (well me, let's be honest!). If picking a reception hall is stressful, I cant even imagine how i am going to handle the rest of the details! I am the first of my friends to get engaged and I need advice! Help help!!!

congrats and welcome!!
i got stressed at first too, esp. picking the hall. now ive got the hall and ive got plenty of time to book the other things. it helps that im getting married on a thursday, so the vendors wont book so quickly.

take it easy and ENJOY it!!!!!

welcome to the boards and congrats!

def do it one step at a time

i suggest hall, church, photo/video, dj, florist , limos

do one at a time. each time you are ready for a vendor make sure you know what you want out of them and then do some research to find a few that may suit you and then set up the appointments

congrats and welcome to the site!
I don't think you should stress out just take things step by step and book major vendors first!!

Hello!
Welcome & Congrats!!

As everyone has said - focus on one vendor at a time.
You should do church, reception hall, photog/video, and flowers first and the move on to limos and dress at least 10-15 months before the wedding.

Good Luck!

Congrats!!!

Don't worry, you have plenty of time. I found it easier if I did research about vendors first and looked them up on this site, the better business bureau, and Google in general. Sometimes the vendors webpage was helpful as well (especially photographers). I made my list of vendors I wanted to see and then did one type of vendor at a time. Book the more important ones first and work your way from there.

We're always here to help too!

Re: HELP! Recently engaged

OK...First, take a deep breath...ahh. thats better :o)
I was just as anxious as you. I am too the first of my friends to be engaged. It is all very exciting but can be overwhelming. This site is SUPER helpful. Any questions you have, (wedding related or not) we are all here to help you. I have had so many random thoughts that I just throw out there for advice and always get a great answer. I have learned so much and it has only been 4 months! My advice to you is take your time. Everyone stresses booking things super fast. It is important to reserve your hall and ceremony site first. Make this your top priority. After that, decide upon what you want to tackle next. Remember, some people pull off weddings in 6 months. If you leave yourself a year or so, you will do just fine. Don't forget to enjoy this experience... attend bridal shows, get your gf's involved and have fun!
