Ok, so I am sitting at work right now and I looked down and noticed a bunch of scratches along the band of my engagement ring. I am so upset right now and don't know what to do. First I don't know why my ring is scratching as easily as it is. It is 14k white gold. Does gold really scratch this easily. I have not idea how the hell i did it and its frustrating me to no end. Does anyone know how to take care of it. I just called our jeweler and they said to drop it off and it can take up to TEN DAYS to have cleaned and fixed. yikes!!!! Help.

Yep, gold scratches pretty easily. Soon all of the scratches will blend together and you won't even notice them.

Re: HELP! - RING PROBLEM
Do you wear your ring to the gym? When I had my ring sized, the jeweler said that I should never wear my ring at the gym because it scratches up the bands so quickly. Mine is platinum, but I imagine the same would be true for gold.

Yes it will scratch from day to day usage. Ask your jeweler to polish the band so that its scratch free.

I think scratches are inevitable. I would definitely go to the jeweler though, good call. And hey, at least it's not your diamond!

IMy band is platinum but is still very scratched. I just asked my jeweler over the weekend about gold and platinum bands scratching...Both Are going to scratch. With the gold she said that you can have it polished and dipped...Im Not exactly sure what that mean but Im sure your ring will look brand new once you have it done

Re: HELP! - RING PROBLEM
I was upset when I saw how scratched my platinum ring was after just a few weeks, but it happens. We're probably the only ones who even notice it, I wouldn't worry.

Just everyday working wit your hands can do that. It shouldnt take 10days at all to fix that . I had the same problem and my jewler buffed the scratches out 1-2-3 it took 20 minutes

Re: HELP! - RING PROBLEM
My jeweler buffed out scratches and polished my ring in a matter of minutes. I would be wary if they are telling you ten days. I would never leave my ring with someone that long. I have heard horror stories about diamond switching. JMO

Don't even worry about it, I just looked at the band of my ring and I don't even notice them anymore.
And if your diamond scratches you have a bigger problem on your hands. And the only way to scratch your diamond is with another diamond, so no ring fights with your friends!!

you can have it dipped and polished, but it should NOT take 10 days...that would worry me, I wouldnt want to leave my ring somewhere for that long

Re: HELP! - RING PROBLEM
My ring is white gold and is scratched up too. (I scratched it the first night I had it--FH wasn't too happy about that!)
The scratches will start to blend and become less noticeable. My jewelry friend warned me from getting it 'polished' too much because it would make the band thinner. But I figure that is over the long term.
