Help! RSVP response etiquette.

Original post by latinanyc

I was just wondering if it's bad etiquette to want to know the reason why a guest can't make it to my wedding. I received a decline with a little note with a reason and I thought that was nice. I also have a couple of other RSVP declines that haven't written a note. Is it bad etiiquette to ask why they decline?

I also received a check with one decline. Is it okay to cash now before the wedding (which is in June) and send a thank you after the wedding. I don't even have my thank you cards yet. Or can I e-mail a thank you that I received the check now and send an official thank you card by mail with our wedding picture after the wedding. Not sure what to do here.

I personally wouldn't ask the reason. Just chalk it up to they may have had a previous engagement and leave it at that.

As far as the check, definitely cash it now and either call them or send them a quick thank you card (doesn't have to be your official thank you cards) to let them know that you have received it and to thank for sending the gift. They might be worried that you never received the check if you don't thank them right away.

If you send a thank you now, you can allude to the fact that you'd like to know why they aren't coming without actually asking?

So get some hallmark Thank yous,, write them one, and then say something to the effect that you're sorry they can't make it, you hope everything's ok and you'll miss them that day...or something much more artful.

i would cash the check now and then send a thank you out after your wedding. i hate when my account balance doesn't match!

i dont think it's bad etiquette - i just wont ask unless they tell me - depends how close you are with them...you can cash it now and send them a thank you card after the wedding
