HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

I'm getting married the Sunday of Labor Day weekend 2006. When is it appropriate to send save the dates? I want to make sure I send them out early enough because about 125 people will need hotels. We are going to do a block, but it's a holiday weekend so places will fill out quick. Think I should send hotel information with the STDs?

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

I would send them out a year in advance. I chose Sept 2005.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

I like Sept 2005 or Dec 2005 so you can include them with your holiday cards

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

I would wait until after Labor Day 2005 (more than a year in advance and people may mis-read the year and think its that coming Labor Day).

We were invited to a Labor Day wedding 2002 in Park City, Utah and they mailed STDs Jan 2002 and then three months later sent hotel info and info on the area.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

Just an FYI: most hotels won't let you block more than a year in advance. I had to wait until 2 weeks less than a year away. But definitely block the rooms ASAP.

DH and I went to an OOT wedding on labor day weekend and they sent the STDs with hotel information at the beginning of the year, so I'd say December/January is fine.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

If you send them too soon they are likely to get tossed aside and forgotten about.

I voted for Dec 2005 but honestly I was thinking more like Jan/Feb 2006.

My wedding was Sept 2004 and I sent mine I January but it wasn't a holiday weekend but we did have a lot of OOT guests.

One thing I recommend is to definitely do you hotel block a year in advance if they will let you. I did mine in December and got the last spot at the hotel I used and they will only open 10 rooms at a time for your block so you will probably want to have more than one hotel blocked.

Good luck.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

We are getting married on the sunday of labor day weekend in 2005. We are sending out our save the date cards in feb. 2005 (to avoid the holiday rush, we decided to avoid sending them before that). we have a wedding website printed on our save the dates, and on the wedding website is information about the rooms that are blocked.

We're getting married Thanksgiving wk end of this year - 11/27, I sent our STDs out in March. I wanted to make sure people had plenty of notice because a lot of people go away.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

If it's a holiday weekend definitely no less than 1 year in advance. We were engaged on July 17th in Italy. We returned home (26th) and booked our hall by the 28th for next July 4th. I worked frantically for a couple of days to handmake my STD's and sent them out immediately. Some of my guest already made vacation plans for July 4th over a year in advance. Holiday weekends need more notice.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

I'm getting married President's Day weekend and we sent our STD out in August. I think 6 mths. is plenty of time. Send it with the hotel information but don't be disappointed if people don't make their reservations right away. I've got just under 4 mths to go and only a handful of people have made their reservations.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

Usual standard is 6-9 months prior. Noone has labor day plans for 06 yet and I certainly agree with the previous poster regarding not prior to Labor day 05. I like the idea of Jab 06 so that you miss the holiday rush. We are getting married week after LD this coming year and sending early Jan.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

I think one year in advance is good. I just sent mine out for Columbus weekend of '05.

Go with 9/05. Happy Planning!

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

We're thinking of sending ours out after New years. We figured it would be best to miss the delays from holiday mail & by then more people would have the next year's calendars so they could mark it.

I was going to say the exact same thing!!! No EARLIER then 1 year before but If I were you I would send them out early Jan 06. Honestly if I recieve something in 05 for something in 06 I am like w t f is going on.
It would definitly be put aside and forgotten since its not till 'next year'.
Plus if you send it out in Decemeber it will be mixed with everyoes holiday mail... and with everything else going on at that time of the year people wont pay enough attention as they should.

No sooner than Sept 2005. I voted Sept. 05 but Jan 06 is also good. Definitely include hotel information.

Re: HELP - Sending STD for a holiday weekend wedding

i would take care of securing the block as soon as you can, but would wait til jan '06 to actually send. i am getting married on memorial day weekend, and will be sending out the std's in december or so... maybe a bit late, but most people actually know about my wedding already so in some ways it's just a formality... plus, i don't think memorial day is as big in this area as labor day (it is still too cold most years to do something truly 'summery'...).

Alex, no surprise, makes an excellent point --> there is nothing that says although you are not sending out actual STD's that you cannot spread the word by mouth to family and friends.
