Help Settle a Dispute...Combined Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances
Please help me settle a dispute with FI.
If you combine your Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances:
Are you both supposed to be announced together or is the Father/Daughter announced first, then after a minute or so the Mother/Son is announced and joins in?
Thanks!

We did it combined because I do not have a close relationship with my father and did not want a father/daughter or mother/son dance. I did not want just mother/son to draw attention to the lack of father/daughter. But, DH's mother felt strongly that she wanted to be up there to cry or whatever so, all four of us danced at the same time. It worked well for us because it was less time with guests standing around and more time for guests to dance.
It is done, and I have seen it done before. I'm sure everyone has their own reasons, be it time, relationships, etc.

Re: Help Settle a Dispute...Combined Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances
we are doing seperate dances, but if I were doing it your way I would start with bride and father then not a minute later but a few seconds later take light off bride dad and shine it on the mother and son lower music and introduce them then up the sound and do the 2 spot lights or how ever you do lighting.. that kinda gives a few seconds attention to each as being introduced... i wouldnt wait a minute though!!! FMIL might feel short changed on dancing with her son if you wait a minute...
'It worked well for us because it was less time with guests standing around and more time for guests to dance. ' because of this doing it all in one dance has crossed my mind!!! hasnt really left my consideration either.. but to be decided on later.. i need a band and photographer and florist first!!!

Hope it didn't sound like I meant anything by that. I was really just curious and more than that nosey!

I want to do this. Simply because I know I will be SO embarrased with just me and dad dancing, so it will make me feel better if some of the attention is on FH/FMIL. FH feels the same way
We'll probably announce me and dad and THEN FH/FMIL - so they get a separate announcement and still feel special (plus FH will be happy to have less time to dance )

Re: Help Settle a Dispute...Combined Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances
I did them together but still a bit different. We started with my dad and I, then Dh and his mom, then my mom and my brother and then FIL and Dh's sister.
My family is VERY close but DH's is not - at all so to make it comfortable and just for something 'different' we did a big old family dance. It was nice - a lot of people commented on how nice it was.

I've seen it start together. The MC just announces both the bride and dad and the groom and mom up to the dance floor and they dance.

Can I ask how everyone agreed on one song (whoever did this at their wedding)?
Was it easy or did you have go through a long ordeal to pick a song that worked for both? Thanks!

I think you both need to be introduced at the same time to avoid any issues with 'why does he/she get called first'

Hmmm I think I made the decision and didn't ask anyone's opinion! It was 'Through the Years'...I found that to avoid conflict with everyone it was easier just to make all decisions and not ask opinions...Asking for opinions just leads to problems!

I've never seen it combined. I assume you'd have them start at the same time if they're combined...
