HELP: slate roof

Please- if anyone can recommend a good slate roof repair guy I would really appreciate it. The house is in Mineola and the roof is 70+ years old. Most normal roofing places won't even touch it or they suggest ripping it all down. Any suggestions?

Re: HELP: slate roof

I know my DH has done them... do they not want to do it because the slate is fragile? I know most co's dont want to do repairs cause they dont want another section to leak and get blamed for it. They want to be able to guaranty their work.

Re: HELP: slate roof

The slate is really fragile- but the roof is not leaking at all. Insurance is giving me a hard time because some of the slates are crooked/ look loose. I wasn't prepared to get a whole new roof now, but becuase of this I might have to. I haven't even gotten as far as discussing gaurentee with anyone because every roofer who has seen it says simply not to touch it.
