HELP - STRESS OVER CEREMONY

HELP - STRESS OVER CEREMONY

Hello Ladies..

I am having a ton of stress over where we are going to have our ceremony.

I am looking for a Chapel in Suffolk County to hold our ceremony. I can't get married in our local parish because we did not 'Donate' enough to them, and other local parishes do not want outside residents holding ceremonys at their church if we are not a registered member. It just left a bad taste in my mouth for how greedy the church can be sometimes.

But I heard you can 'rent' a Chapel and have an officiant come in to marry you. I really want to look into that option so that I can have the following:
1. 'Church' like pictures.
2. Day time pictures - If I had the ceremony at the hall it would be dark out because it is a Sat night Wedding in Nov. 04.
3. Time to spend at the cocktail hour!!! I am spending all that money I do not want to be running around taking pictures and being pulled away every two seconds.

And lastly, more time on our day with my FH.

If anyone has any idea for Suffolk County... Please FM or post. I would be so grateful!!!

Thank you..

Our ceremony plan is for outdoors, but I'd be interested in hearing indoor suggestions in case of inclement weather!!

My father and step mother got married at a Presbytarian church in East Setauket and they were not members....it was an interfaith marriage, and he had no problem doing it. It is on Old Town Rd across from the Emma S. Clark Library and there is a great park up the road for pics (stone bridge, an old barn, beautiful greenery...) I think the name of it was First Presbytarian, but I could be wrong

I did find that online, however, we are exit 59 on LIE and so is the majority of friends and family, I wish I could find something like that in Suffolk, but I can't seem to find like that.

PS.. I called them and it is approx. $900 for a ceremony with about 30 ppl.

How much did your church charge? What is considered 'normal' for this?

I'm interested at prices too. $550.00 for my priest $250.00 for pre-cana (sp).

CW Post has a beautiful 'church' Plus they have beautiful grounds for your photos!

Re: HELP - STRESS OVER CEREMONY

Sorry for the late response.. Did not see that question.. But the church wanted in the thousands. Turned me off completely. I had to settle on having my ceremony at my hall. It stinks too, but I know about CW Post and about a place in Woodbury. But they are too far for my family and friends to drive. My reception is in East Patchogue. So it would be unfair to have them drive to Nassau for a half an hour ceremony.

I did end up finding a church that would allow us, but they were still about 20 minutes out from us. But we had to join, attend church, and donate. I would not have minded but the Fiance got so turned off to the church idea after he saw me trying so hard to convince our local church, and other surrounding churches to 'allow' us into their parish. I begged and pleaded telling them that I just moved into the area, wanted to join the local parish, get married, and then once I had kids get them baptized. I was not going to be a fly by night wedding seeker.

Sorry to ramble.. the whole experience just left a bad taste in my mouth and his mouth. And to think I was trying to something good by joining church!! Its all about money sometimes.

Re: HELP - STRESS OVER CEREMONY

friends of ours got married at a chapel on the grounds of the VA Hospital in Huntington. Cute chapel, but it won't hold a ton of people.

we were married at a church in Kings Park, that was not our parish. We had no problems getting 'permission' to have our ceremony there. We were required to do pre-cana (which we did locally here in CA) and provide a nominal contribution ($200).

Keep trying I know that its frustrating because I had the same problem- my church wouldnt marry us because my FH isnt SAVED according to them- can you believe that?- anyway keep looking because i did find a church that just wants a donation and an agreement to pre marriage conseling. He doesnt care if Im a memeber or not- keep looking you will find a church that doesnt require membership- Good Luck

Re: HELP - STRESS OVER CEREMONY

I think I am going to be in the same situation, but I haven't really started looking yet.

Does it vary by denomination? Were are both confirmed Catholics, but I technically belong to a parish in Westchester, but we want to get married on LI.
I'm not sure if I want to bother struggling with my old parish in Bethpage. I haven't been since Confirmation & my family doesn't go either.

We're thinking of trying 2 different Episcopalian chruches, I thought they were more linient, but Now I
I'm a litle worried scince you all had so much trouble, but I'm not sure what deonominations you have tried.
I'm keeping the historical chapel in mind as a last resort.
