I'm looking to find out what happens when you have to cancel a wedding in Suffolk County (b/c I know Nassau is different)... how much money is the bride or groom responsible for paying? Does it matter who broke it off?
I ask b/c I have a good girl friend of mine who is in the middle of a big mess- she and her FH have broken up and she needs to cancel the wedding but she is only about 40 days away from the date! What about other vendors? Does she just lose the deposits for them?
I told her I would come on here, try to find info on it and help her out. I know this has been posted before but I tried searching and could not find anything.
she will probably loose her deposit with her vendors... and i think for the hall, you have to cancel with in a certain amount of time... 40 days seems a little too close...

it really depends on her contract with the place...

Re: Help: Suffolk Law for Reception Halls
She is going to lose everything she has paid out so far unless her contracts have refund clauses that allow for cancellation this close to the wedding date. The Suffolk Law only applies to weddings cancelled more than 6 months in advance.

I hate to bring this up, and no one wants to think about this happening to them, but I read somewhere that it's a good idea for both bride and groom to be signing contracts. One poor girl was left with all the bills b/c only she had signed, and after the breakup, ex-FI wanted to be a spiteful ******!

She's going to lose out her deposits....40 days before is way too soon, the law allows you to cancel only 6 months before.
